If you need to perform maintenance on a cloud computer and want to prevent end users from connecting to or using it during the maintenance period, you can enable maintenance mode. This topic describes how to maintain cloud computers effectively.
Background information
To install or uninstall configuration files or applications and manage the configurations of the system disk on a cloud computer, you must first put the cloud computer into maintenance mode.
Scenarios
If you need to perform tasks like creating images on cloud computers that are part of many-to-many shares, and you want to prevent end users from accessing or using these cloud computers during maintenance, you can enable maintenance mode. While in maintenance mode, the cloud computers will be inaccessible through Alibaba Cloud Workspace terminals. However, you can still access them by using the Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) console for maintenance purposes.
If you want to temporarily prevent end users from connecting to and using dedicated cloud computers, you can use one of the following methods:
Revoke permissions on the dedicated cloud computers from end users. For more information, see Assign cloud computers or many-to-many shares to convenience accounts.
If you want to authorize end users to reuse the cloud computer, you need to assign the cloud computer again.
Lock the convenience accounts that end users use to access the dedicated cloud computers. For more information, see Lock or unlock convenience accounts.
ImportantOnce a convenience account is locked, end users will no longer be able to use it to log on to any Alibaba Cloud Workspace terminals. As a result, they will lose access to all cloud computers associated with that account.
Place the dedicated cloud computers into maintenance mode. For more information, see Place a dedicated cloud computer into maintenance mode.
NoteWhen a dedicated cloud computer is set to maintenance mode, neither the administrator nor end users can access it.
Once the dedicated cloud computer exits maintenance mode, end users can resume using it.
Usage notes
Before placing a cloud computer into maintenance mode, ensure you review the following items:
If you place a cloud computer that is not assigned to end users into maintenance mode, the View/Assign Users or Manage MFA Device options in the Actions column will be unavailable.
If you put a cloud computer that is assigned to end users into maintenance mode, the cloud computer enters the Under Maintenance state as soon as all end users disconnect from the cloud computer. End users cannot reconnect to the cloud computer until the cloud computer exits maintenance mode.
If you place a cloud computer, which is part of a many-to-many share and assigned to end users, into maintenance mode, it will only transition to the Under Maintenance state after all active sessions on that cloud computer have been disconnected. The cloud computer is temporarily unavailable for assignment while in maintenance mode. When an end user requests a cloud computer, EDS Enterprise evaluates the availability of standby cloud computers based on the scaling policy you have configured. If standby cloud computers are found, EDS Enterprise randomly assigns one to the end user.
For cloud computers in the Under Maintenance state, EDS Enterprise logs all maintenance activities. You can access these operation logs after the necessary permissions are granted to your Alibaba Cloud account. For more information, see Attach EDS Enterprise system policies to a RAM user or View operation logs.
Prerequisites
The cloud computer is in the Stopped or Running state.
If you want to use a Resource Access Management (RAM) user to perform maintenance, the required permissions are granted to the RAM user. For more information, see Grant permissions to a RAM user.
Place a cloud computer from a many-to-many share into maintenance mode
Log on to the EDS Enterprise console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.
On the Many-to-Many tab of the Shared Cloud Computer page, click the ID of the desired many-to-many share.
On the Cloud Computer Information tab, find the desired cloud computer, click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column, and then click Enter Maintenance Mode.
In the message that appears, click Confirm.
The cloud computer transitions to the Running|Under Maintenance state. In this state, you can connect to it as an administrator and carry out maintenance tasks. After you complete your maintenance tasks, click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column and then click Exit Maintenance Mode.
Connect to a cloud computer in maintenance mode as an administrator
When a cloud computer from a many-to-many share enters maintenance mode, you can access it as an administrator through the EDS Enterprise console to carry out necessary maintenance tasks.
Log on to the EDS Enterprise console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.
On the Many-to-Many tab of the Shared Cloud Computer page, click the ID of the desired many-to-many share.
On the Cloud Computer Information tab, find the cloud computer under maintenance, click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column, and then click Administrator Logon.
The cloud computer is automatically connected over the web client that appears in the browser.
