This topic describes how to use Hybrid Backup Recovery (HBR) to regularly back up full data or incremental data in Tablestore.

Usage notes

  • The first time that you use this feature, HBR automatically creates the service-linked role AliyunServiceRoleForHbrOtsBackup to obtain Tablestore instances in your account. Follow the on-screen instructions to create the role. For more information, see Service-linked roles for HBR.
  • By default, HBR reads the Tablestore instances in the region where HBR is deployed and automatically loads the instances without installing a client.
  • You can back up data in Tablestore only to HBR backup vaults in the same region as the Tablestore instance in which the data that you want to back up resides. Cross-region backup is not supported.
  • You can back up and restore only data tables in Tablestore instances. You cannot back up indexes or time series tables.

Procedure

To create a backup plan for a Tablestore instance, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on to the HBR console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Backup > Tablestore Backup.
  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.
  4. Find the Tablestore instance that you want to back up and click Back Up in the Actions column.
  5. In the Create Backup Plan panel, set the parameters and click OK.
    1. Specify a name for the backup plan, select the objects that you want to back up, and then click Next.
      Parameter Description
Plan Name Specify a name for the backup plan.
Selected Select the objects that you want to back up. You can select one or more tables.
    2. Configure the backup plan and click Next.
      Backup type Parameter Description
Full backup Full Backup If you turn on Full Backup, HBR backs up all historical data.
Time Scale This parameter is required only if you turn on Full Backup. This parameter specifies the backup cycle. You can perform scheduled backup on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
Run At This parameter is required only if you turn on Full Backup. This parameter specifies the start time of the scheduled backup plan. The time is accurate to seconds.
Time Interval This parameter is required only if the Time Scale parameter is set to Daily (Periodic). This parameter specifies the interval between two consecutive backup jobs.
Days This parameter is required only if the Time Scale parameter is set to Weekly (Periodic). This parameter specifies the days of week to run backup jobs.
Months This parameter is required only if the Time Scale parameter is set to Monthly (Periodic). This parameter specifies the months to run backup jobs.
Dates This parameter is required only if the Time Scale parameter is set to Monthly (Periodic). This parameter specifies the dates in the specified months to run backup jobs.
Incremental backup Incremental Backup If you turn on Incremental Backup, HBR backs up incremental data. Incremental backup requires less time than full backup because the volume of incremental data is smaller than historical data.
Time Scale This parameter is required only if you turn on Incremental Backup. This parameter specifies the backup cycle. You can perform scheduled backup on a minutely, hourly, or daily basis.
Run At This parameter is required only if you turn on Incremental Backup and set the Time Scale parameter to Daily (Periodic). This parameter specifies the start time of the scheduled backup plan. The time is accurate to seconds.
Time Interval This parameter is required only if you turn on Incremental Backup. This parameter specifies the interval between two consecutive backup jobs. The interval can be set to 30 minutes, 1 to 24 hours, or 1 to 7 days.
    3. Configure the backup settings.
      Parameter Description
Backup Vault The backup vault to which you want to store the backup data. Valid values:
      • Create Vault (default value): If you select this option, specify a name for the vault in the Vault Name field. If you do not configure this parameter, a random name is specified for the backup vault.
      • Select Vault: If you select this option, select a backup vault from the Vault Name drop-down list.
Vault Name The name of the backup vault.
Vault Resource Group This parameter is required only if the Backup Vault parameter is set to Create Vault. This parameter specifies the resource group to which the backup vault belongs.

You can use resource groups to manage resources owned by your Alibaba Cloud account. Resource groups simplify the resource and permission management of your Alibaba Cloud account. For more information, see Create a resource group.

Retention Period The retention period of the backup data. Default value: 2 years. Unit: days, weeks, months, or years.
Enable Traffic Shaping You can limit the bandwidth that is used for data backup during peak hours to ensure business continuity. If you enable traffic shaping, you must set the Time Range (Hour) and Max Bandwidth (MB) parameters based on your business requirements and then click Add.
After the backup plan is created for the Tablestore instance, HBR runs backup jobs based on the backup plan. You can view the backup plan on the Backup Plans tab. backuplans
