Purchase plans provided in the Chinese mainland

If you run your business in the Chinese mainland or your customers locate in the Chinese mainland, you can purchase plans available in Chinese mainland regions. This ensures high-speed and stable user access over the Internet.

Purchase plans provided outside the Chinese mainland

If you run your business outside the Chinese mainland or your customers locate outside the Chinese mainland, you can purchase plans available in non-Chinese mainland regions If you run your business in the Chinese mainland or your customers locate in the Chinese mainland, we do not recommend you to purchase plans available in non-Chinese mainland regions. Because these plans result in increased access latency, which brings unfulfilled user experience. For example, if you run your business in Hong Kong or Southeast Asia, you can purchase plans available in regions such as China (Hong Kong) and Singapore.

Manage simple application servers

Manage server lifecycles

The lifecycle of a simple application server spans from creation to release of the server. Throughout the course of the process, the simple application server undergoes a variety of states.

Lifecycle of a simple application server

View server information

After you create a simple application server, you can view its details such as the configurations, expiration time, and resource usage in the Simple Application Server console.

View server information

Change server names

You can change server names to distinguish and manage servers in a straightforward style.

Release servers

You can manually release simple application servers that expire or are no longer required. You can also wait for Simple Application Server to release these servers.

Release a simple application server

Manage passwords and keys

Set or reset server passwords

If you want to use a username and password to connect to a simple application server, you can set a logon password for the server. If you forget the logon password of a simple application server, you can reset a logon password for the server.

Create and replace key pairs for Linux servers

Alibaba Cloud provides the secure and convenient SSH key pair-based authentication method for logons to simple application servers. The key pairs are used for authentication and encrypted communication over the SSH protocol. A key pair consists of a public key and a private key. Only Linux simple application servers support SSH key pair-based authentication for logons. If you have high requirements on security and convenience, you can create an SSH key pair for your simple application server.

Manage applications

Manage applications

After you create a simple application server based on an application image, you can view preset applications in the application image and manage the applications based on the usage procedure provided in the Simple Application Server console.

Manage domain names

Resolve and bind domain names

Although your customers can access your website built on a simple application server by using a public IP address, we still recommend that you configure a domain name for your website. This ensures the security of your website and facilitates more effortless user access.

Manage firewalls

Manage firewalls

The firewall of a simple application server is a virtual firewall that uses firewall rules to control the inbound traffic of the simple application server. This ensures the security of the server.

Manage data disks

View data disks

If you attach a data disk to your simple application server, you can view details of the data disk such as the size, mount path, and status in the Simple Application Server console.

View the data disk

Attach a data disk

You can attach a data disk to your simple application server when or after you create the simple application server.

Attach a data disk

Partition and format a data disk

After you attach a data disk to your simple application server, you must partition and format the data disk before you can use it.

Partition and format a data disk

Scale up a data disk

You can scale up a data disk if the available space of the data disk on your simple application server is insufficient to meet your business requirements.

Extend a data disk

Manage snapshots

Manage snapshots

A snapshot is a point-in-time backup of a disk. Snapshots can be used to back up data, recover data after misoperations on servers, recover data after network attacks, and create custom images.

Manage snapshots

Manage custom images

Create custom images

You can create custom images to store the data on a simple application server.

Create a custom image

Share custom images

You can share custom images from Simple Application Server to only Elastic Compute Service (ECS). If the configurations of your simple application server cannot meet your business requirements, or you want to deploy your business on ECS instances, you can share your custom images to ECS to transfer your business from Simple Application Server to ECS.

Share a custom image

Unshare custom images

You can unshare custom images based on your business requirements. You must unshare custom images before you can delete them.

Unshare a custom image

Copy custom images

You can copy custom images from one region to another region and then use the copies of the custom images to create simple application servers. This way, you can seamlessly migrate data between simple application servers across regions. You can also use the custom image sharing feature to share the copies of the custom images to ECS. Then, you can use the shared image copies to create ECS instances. This way, you can seamlessly migrate data from simple application servers to ECS instances across regions.

Copy a custom image

Delete custom images

You can delete custom images that are no longer required.

Delete a custom image

Create servers based on custom images

You can use custom images to create simple application servers that have the same configurations as or higher configurations than the custom images.

Use a custom image to create one or more simple application servers

Copy images shared by Simple Application Server in the ECS console

We recommend that you copy custom images shared by Simple Application Server in the ECS console before you use the custom images to create ECS instances or replace OSs. You must save the copies on ECS to prevent data loss.

Manage service interconnection

Enable service interconnection

Simple application servers are automatically assigned to virtual private clouds (VPCs), which isolate the servers from other Alibaba Cloud services. By default, simple application servers are not interconnected with other Alibaba Cloud services such as ECS and ApsaraDB. The service interconnection feature allows simple application servers to interconnect with other Alibaba Cloud services over VPCs.
