FAQ
My subscription RDS instance is charged extra fees every hour. What are these fees for?
The subscription fee covers only the instance type and storage capacity. If you use read-only instances, enable features such as SQL Explorer, paid performance monitoring, or the database proxy, or use backup storage that exceeds the free quota, additional fees are charged. You can view the billable items in the Billing Item column on the Bill Details tab. For more information about billable items, see Billable items.

Am I charged for my pay-as-you-go RDS instances if I do not use them?
Yes, you are charged an hourly fee for every pay-as-you-go RDS instance that you create even if you do not use these instances. These instances consume computing resources and storage resources even if you do not use these instances.
Is all Internet traffic, both inbound and outbound, free for pay-as-you-go and subscription instances?
Yes. Inbound and outbound Internet traffic for both pay-as-you-go and subscription instances is free.
On the Bill Details tab, I see multiple records with the product code DMS, product name Database Backup (DBS), and billable item Backup Storage. RDS has a built-in backup management feature. Why am I charged backup fees for DMS?
The backup storage for RDS instances that use cloud disks is provided by Database Backup Service (DBS) and was originally billed under DBS. Starting from June 25, 2025, Alibaba Cloud is integrating the capabilities of DBS and Data Management (DMS). The corresponding backup storage billable items are migrated to DMS for billing. Therefore, the "Database Backup (DBS) - Backup Storage" records under DMS on your bill are not duplicate charges. This is only an adjustment in billing ownership, and you are not double-billed.
