Starting April 10, 2023, the classic network type is no longer available when creating ApsaraDB RDS for SQL Server instances. All new instances must use a virtual private cloud (VPC). Existing instances on the classic network are not affected and continue to operate normally.
Network types
ApsaraDB RDS supports two network types:
Virtual private cloud (VPC) (recommended): An isolated virtual network with configurable route tables, CIDR blocks, and gateways. You can connect your data center to a VPC using Express Connect circuits or a VPN to build a virtual data center and migrate workloads to the cloud with no downtime. Classic network: RDS instances on the classic network cannot be isolated at the network level. Access control relies solely on IP address whitelists and security groups.

Impacts
New RDS instances: Starting April 10, 2023, the classic network type is not selectable when you create an RDS instance. Select VPC instead.
Existing RDS instances on the classic network: No action required. Existing instances continue to run on the classic network without interruption.
Recommendation
Switch existing classic-network instances to VPC. For steps, see Change the network type.
