If you can accurately estimate your resource usage, purchasing resource plans can help you use OSS more cost-effectively.
When to consider purchasing resource plans
Purchasing resource plans is a cost-effective option if you can accurately estimate your resource usage, such as storage capacity and outbound traffic, for a certain period. For instance, if you anticipate using about 100 GB of Standard zone-redundant storage capacity over the next three months, it is advisable to purchase a 100 GB, 3-month Standard zone-redundant storage plan.
How to determine which resource plan to purchase
-
Select the resource plan type based on billable items
Based on the billable items and usage shown on your OSS bill, you can choose the appropriate resource plan type and specification.
-
Billable Item Matching: If the bill indicates that the main cost source is Standard zone-redundant storage capacity, consider purchasing a Standard zone-redundant storage plan to reduce costs.
-
Usage Matching: If the bill reflects a storage capacity of 40 GB per hour, you can purchase a 40 GB Standard zone-redundant storage plan to precisely cover the actual usage.
-
-
Select resource plans based on usage scenarios
Depending on your specific usage scenarios, choose the appropriate combination of resource plans. Below are common scenarios and their recommended resource plans:
-
Store Files: If your account's Bucket is primarily used for storing text, images, audio, and video files with Standard zone-redundant storage, it is recommended to purchase a Standard zone-redundant storage plan.
-
Access Files Over the Internet: For browsing or downloading OSS files via the Internet, consider purchasing an outbound traffic plan to cover the fees for outbound traffic.
-
ECS Snapshot Storage: To create and retain ECS snapshots, a Standard locally redundant storage plan is recommended to offset the related fees.
-
Purchase procedure
Consider the required services, business volume, and region when purchasing a resource plan, especially if the plan is region-specific.
For details on the types of resource plans and supported regions, see Resource Plan Overview.
Precautions
You can purchase OSS resource plans without activating OSS. However, you must manually activate OSS after purchasing the plan for it to automatically offset the associated usage when you use OSS.
Purchase steps
Log on to the OSS console.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, select .
-
On the Resource Plan Management page, click Purchase Resource Plan.
-
Select the resource plan type, region, specification, and duration based on your actual situation, and then click Purchase Now.
Important-
After purchasing a resource plan, you cannot switch the resource plan type. A specific type of resource plan can only offset fees for its corresponding billable items. When purchasing, select the appropriate resource plan type.
-
After purchasing a resource plan, it takes effect immediately. There is no need to manually establish a connection for the plan to automatically offset the associated billable items.
-
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the purchase.
Example
In March 2022, Mr. Chen purchased a 500 GB global general-purposeStandard LRS storage plan and a 100 GB global general-purpose outbound traffic plan. His resource usage for March was:
-
300 GB of Standard locally redundant storage (LRS) objects, 110 GB of outbound traffic over the Internet, and 100,000 API requests in the China (Hangzhou) region.
-
100 GB of Standard locally redundant storage (LRS) objects and 200 GB of Standard zone-redundant storage (ZRS) objects in the China (Shanghai) region.
The table below describes how fees are offset:
Region |
Resource Plan Offset |
Pay-As-You-Go |
China (Hangzhou) |
300 GB of Standard LRS capacity fees offset by the 500 GB Standard LRS storage plan. |
Fee for 100,000 API requests. |
100 GB of capacity in the outbound traffic plan offsets the fee for 100 GB of outbound traffic over the Internet. |
Traffic fee for the remaining 10 GB of outbound traffic over the Internet. |
|
China (Shanghai) |
100 GB of Standard LRS capacity fees offset by the 500 GB Standard LRS storage plan. |
Fee for 200 GB of Standard ZRS objects. |
FAQ
What should I do if I purchased the wrong resource plan?
If the purchased resource plan does not meet your expectations, choose the appropriate solution based on the number of days since the purchase and whether it has been used.
-
Applicable to OSS resource plans purchased within five days and not used:
Request a full refund. After the refund is processed, repurchase the correct resource plan.
-
Applicable to OSS resource plans used within five days and not used beyond five days:
Select the appropriate solution based on the deduction method of the purchased resource plan.

Request a partial refund.
Refund amount = actual payment - (original price / actual purchase days) × used days
If you do not want to use the partial refund method, you can convert the Bucket redundancy type from locally redundant to zone-redundant so that the zone-redundant storage plan can directly offset the corresponding storage capacity.
After the conversion is completed, the Bucket is no longer charged at the locally redundant storage price but at the zone-redundant storage price. The price of zone-redundant storage is higher than that of locally redundant storage. For specific prices, see OSS Pricing.

What should I do if the resource plan purchase page does not have the specifications I want to purchase?
The OSS Resource Plan page typically offers specifications such as 100 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB, and 10 TB. For non-standard specifications (e.g., 9 TB), you need to choose a purchase method based on whether the resource plan supports stacking.
-
Resource plans that support stacking
For resource plans that allow stacking (like outbound traffic plans), you can purchase a 9 TB resource plan by combining multiple plans. For example, you could buy three outbound traffic plans of 5 TB, 2 TB, and 2 TB respectively.
-
Resource plans that do not support stacking
For resource plans that do not allow stacking (such as the Standard LRS storage plan), consider the following options:
-
Directly purchase a 10 TB Standard LRS storage plan.
-
Purchase a 5 TB Standard LRS storage plan and use the pay-as-you-go method for the excess usage.
-
For details on whether resource plans support stacking, see Resource Plan Supported Operations.
