An overdue payment occurs when OSS charges cannot be covered by your available balance or resource plans. If left unresolved, OSS is suspended and your data is permanently deleted. Act quickly — the window to recover your data is limited.
Why you have an overdue payment
An overdue payment occurs in either of these situations:
Your Alibaba Cloud account balance is insufficient and you have no resource plans.
You have resource plans, but they do not cover all charges. For details, see Received an unexpected bill? Why your resource plan might not cover all fees.
What happens to your service
OSS moves through three stages after an overdue payment is detected.
| Stage | Trigger | Service state | Billing | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grace window | Immediately after overdue | Fully available | Continues | Top up your account balance to avoid suspension |
| Suspended | 360 hours after overdue, if unpaid | Buckets invisible and inaccessible in the console | Stops | Settle all overdue bills within 15 days to restore access |
| Terminated | 15 days after suspension, if still unpaid | Service ended; data deleted | No charge for deleted data | No recovery possible |
If your account balance remains below USD 0 when the 15-day grace period expires, all data in your buckets is permanently deleted — regardless of any resource plans you purchased or their remaining validity period. This data cannot be recovered.
Stage 1: Grace window (0–360 hours after overdue)
OSS sends a notification when your account enters overdue status. Your service continues to run normally during this window.
Top up your Alibaba Cloud account balance within 360 hours to prevent suspension.
Stage 2: Suspended (up to 15 days)
If the overdue balance is not settled within 360 hours, OSS is automatically suspended:
All buckets in the account are no longer visible or accessible via the console.
Billing for occupied buckets stops.
Settle all overdue bills within 15 days to restore OSS automatically.
Stage 3: Terminated
If overdue bills are not settled within the 15-day grace period:
Alibaba Cloud terminates OSS service for your account.
All data in your buckets is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
You are no longer charged for the data that was stored before deletion.
