Billing methods

The table below outlines the billing methods available for OpenSearch Retrieval Engine Edition.

Billing method

Description

Pay-as-you-go

With the pay-as-you-go method, you use resources before paying for them. Billing occurs hourly, and fees are deducted from your Alibaba Cloud account balance based on the instance specifications. This method is ideal for short-term needs, and you can release the instance when it's no longer required to avoid further charges.

Subscription

The subscription method involves upfront payment upon instance creation. It offers a more cost-effective solution compared to pay-as-you-go for long-term use.

Instance fee structure

OpenSearch Retrieval Engine Edition's fees are determined by six components: instance rental, QRS worker usage, Searcher worker usage, Searcher worker storage, index storage, and data update resource fees.

Total instance fee = Instance rental fee + QRS worker usage fee + Searcher worker usage fee + Searcher worker storage fee + Index storage fee + Data update resource fee

Note
  • For businesses with low queries per second (QPS) but a large index count, we recommend instance specifications with local SSDs. For high QPS or memory-storable indexes, cloud disks are preferable.

  • After purchasing Searcher workers, you can assign replicas and shards to the instance. The number of Searcher workers should not exceed the product of the number of replicas and shards. Adjustments to the number of replicas can be made in the Basic Information section of the Instance Details page, and shard numbers can be modified in the Table Information section of the Table Management page.

  • Each Cloud Disk type Searcher worker reserves a fixed amount of storage for system use, varying by specification. For instance, a Searcher worker with 2 CPU cores and 16 GB of memory or 4 CPU cores and 32 GB of memory reserves 2 GB for the system. One with 8 CPU cores and 64 GB of memory reserves 3 GB, and one with 16 CPU cores and 128 GB of memory reserves 5 GB. Local SSD type Searcher workers do not reserve system storage.

Index storage fees are based on the total size of indexes within an instance. Index storage up to 100 GB is free. Beyond that, charges apply for the additional index size at the specified unit price.

Data update fee

The OpenSearch Retrieval Engine Edition billing is based on the resources consumed during data updates.

Data update fees are calculated based on the number of resources utilized. OpenSearch provides a free quota of two resources per data source or table, each consisting of 4 CPU cores and 8 GB of memory for data updates. Additional resources beyond the quota are billable.
