Object Storage Service:SCU (Storage Capacity Unit)

Last Updated:Apr 28, 2026

A Storage Capacity Unit (SCU) is a subscription resource plan for offsetting storage capacity fees across multiple cloud storage products. Unlike storage plans dedicated to a single product, SCUs offer greater flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

Purchase method

To learn how to purchase an SCU, see Purchase an SCU.

Note

SCUs support stacking. You can purchase multiple SCUs for the same region and effective period to offset your storage fees.

Offset factors

The following table lists the SCU offset factors for different OSS storage classes in the Chinese mainland.

Note

For offset factors in other regions or for other cloud products, see Pricing.

Storage class

Offset factor

Description

Standard LRS

0.06

0.06 GB of SCU capacity offsets 1 GB of Standard LRS capacity.

Standard ZRS

0.06

0.06 GB of SCU capacity offsets 1 GB of Standard ZRS capacity.

IA LRS

0.04

0.04 GB of SCU capacity offsets 1 GB of IA LRS capacity.

IA ZRS

0.05

0.05 GB of SCU capacity offsets 1 GB of IA ZRS capacity.

Archive LRS

0.01

0.01 GB of SCU capacity offsets 1 GB of Archive LRS capacity.

Offset order

OSS storage fees are offset in the following order: region-specific storage plans, general-purpose storage plans for the Chinese mainland, and finally SCUs. Any remaining storage usage is billed at the pay-as-you-go rate.

Example

In June 2021, a user purchased a 500 GB Standard (LRS) storage plan and a 20 GB SCU in the China (Hangzhou) region. During that month, the user stored 600 GB of Standard LRS objects and 200 GB of Archive LRS objects in the same region. The following table describes how the storage fees are offset.

Storage plan offset

SCU offset

Standard LRS

The 500 GB Standard (LRS) storage plan offsets the fees for 500 GB of storage.

6 GB of SCU capacity offsets the fees for the remaining 100 GB of storage.

6 GB of SCU capacity is consumed. This amount is calculated based on the 100 GB of Standard LRS capacity remaining after the Standard (LRS) storage plan is applied: (600 GB - 500 GB) × 0.06 = 6 GB.

Archive LRS

None

2 GB of SCU capacity offsets the fees for 200 GB of storage.

2 GB of SCU capacity is consumed. This amount is calculated based on the total 200 GB of Archive LRS capacity: 200 GB × 0.01 = 2 GB.
