Before you build Notebook models in Data Science Workshop (DSW), you must create a DSW instance. This topic describes how to create a DSW instance.

Prerequisites

  • Service-linked roles are assigned to DSW to allow DSW to access the relevant resources if you use DSW for the first time. For more information, see Grant permissions.
  • Optional. A dataset of the Apsara File Storage NAS (NAS) type is created.

DSW supports temporary storage of your data. If you want to persist data, you can create and mount a NAS file system and create a dataset of the NAS type in Machine Learning Platform for AI (PAI). Then, you can associate the dataset with the DSW instance to be created. For more information about how to create a NAS file system, see Create a file system.

Create an instance by using the PAI console

  1. Go to the Interactive Modeling (DSW) page.
    1. Log on to the PAI console.
    2. On the Overview page, select the region in which you want to create an instance.
    3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Workspaces. On the Workspace list page, click the name of the workspace in which you want to create an instance.
    4. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Model Training > DSW-Notebook Service.
  2. Click Create Instance.
  3. In the Configure Instance step, set the parameters that are described in the following table.
    Parameter Description
Instance Name The name of the instance. The name cannot exceed 27 characters in length and can contain only letters, digits, and underscores (_).
Region and Zone The region in which the instance is to be created. Instances in different regions cannot communicate with each other. Select a region that is close to your clients to reduce network latency and improve access speed.
Visibility Scope Specifies whether the instance is visible to all members in the current workspace or only to you. Valid values: Visible to Workspace and Visible to Me.
Resource Type The specification of the instance. This parameter is available only to DSW Individual Edition instances. You can create a CPU- or GPU-accelerated instance. For more information about instance specifications, see Individual Edition.
Datasets The system storage disk of the DSW instance is used only for temporary storage. Data in the system storage disk is cleared when the instance is stopped or deleted. If you want to persist data, you can mount a created dataset of the NAS type to the instance. For more information about how to create a NAS file system, see Create a file system.
Note After a NAS file system is mounted, the instance uses the NAS file system instead of the system storage disk to store data.
Select Image The image of the instance. Multiple versions of Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch images are supported. For more information, see Individual Edition.
VPC The virtual private cloud (VPC) in which you want to deploy the instance. This parameter is available only to DSW Individual Edition instances. You can select a VPC to deploy the DSW instance. If you set this parameter, you must also set the vSwitch and Security Group parameters.

You can select an existing VPC or create a VPC as needed.

vSwitch If you set the VPC parameter, you must also set the vSwitch and Security Group parameters.

You can select an existing vSwitch and an existing security group, or create a vSwitch and a security group as needed.

    Security Group
  4. Click Confirm.
  5. Check the order information, select the check box to agree to the Machine Learning DSW Terms of Service, and then click Create Instance.
