How do I select a network type when I use Logtail to collect logs? - Simple Log Service

This topic describes how to select a network type when you use Logtail to collect logs.

Network types

Alibaba Cloud internal network: An Alibaba Cloud internal network provides gigabits of shared bandwidth. Transmission of log data over an internal network is stable and fast. Alibaba Cloud internal networks include virtual private clouds (VPCs) and the classic network.
Internet: Transmission of log data over the Internet is limited by the network bandwidth. Network issues such as jitters, latency, and packet loss may also occur. This affects the speed and stability of data transmission.
Global acceleration: This network type can be used to accelerate log collection by using the edge nodes of Alibaba Cloud CDN (CDN). Compared with log collection over the Internet, log collection based on global acceleration is more stable, and the transmission latency is lower.

The global acceleration feature is in public preview. To enable the feature for your project, submit a to contact Simple Log Service technical support.

Select a network type

Internal network: Make sure that your Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance resides in the same region as your Simple Log Service project.
Note
We recommend that you create your Simple Log Service project in the region where your ECS instance resides. This way, Simple Log Service can collect logs from the ECS instance over an Alibaba Cloud internal network without consuming public bandwidth.
Internet: You can select this network type in the following scenarios:
- Your ECS instance and Simple Log Service project reside in different regions.
- You use a server from a third-party cloud service provider or in a data center.
Global acceleration
If your server and Simple Log Service reside in different regions, such as in and outside China, network latency is high and transmission is unstable when data is transmitted over the Internet. In this case, you can select global acceleration as the network type. For more information, see Global acceleration overview.

Internet or global acceleration

Note

If your Simple Log Service project is located in China and your server is located outside China, we recommend that you use global acceleration to collect logs from the server. In this scenario, log collection based on global acceleration is more stable and provides higher performance than log collection over the Internet.
