ApsaraVideo Live:Configure dual-stream disaster recovery

Last Updated:Oct 24, 2025

Dual-stream disaster recovery is a fallback solution to ensure streaming continuity and stability. This topic introduces the feature and shows how to use it.

What is dual-stream disaster recovery?

Dual-stream disaster recovery allows you to ingest two streams with identical content to the same URL. The system monitors the availability and quality of both streams and outputs the better one. This ensures your live streaming remains stable and uninterrupted, delivering a seamless viewing experience to your audience. This feature is ideal for live streaming of important events and traffic-demanding scenarios.

Note

Currently, dual-stream disaster recovery is free of charge.

Capabilities

  1. Distributed stream ingest: We recommend that you use different Internet service providers (ISPs) to ensure that multiple streams with the same name are ingested to different L1 points of presence (POPs). This improves the effectiveness and resilience of the disaster recovery system.

  2. Multi-stream merging: The central node manages and merges multiple incoming streams with the same name. It supports flexible configurations to adapt to different disaster recovery requirements and policies.

  3. Implicit stream management: The standby stream is invisible when you use the query, callback, recording, and transcoding features and does not interfere with the existing business logic.

  4. Automatic switchover: The system monitors the availability and quality of the two streams in real time. If a stream is abnormal, the system automatically switches to the other one.

  5. Manual switchover: You can manually switch to a standby stream via the console or API. This does not affect the system's capability to perform automatic switchover when necessary.

The following diagram illustrates how the two streams are ingested and distributed:
