This topic describes the limits and procedures for modifying the bandwidth limits of hosted connections and virtual border routers (VBRs).

Modify the bandwidth limit of a hosted connection

You can modify the bandwidth limits of hosted connections that are paid by tenants and Express Connect partners.

Before you perform this operation, take note of the following limits.
LimitEffective timeImpact on billingScenario
The total bandwidth of all hosted connections that are created over an Express Connect circuit cannot exceed the bandwidth of the Express Connect circuit. In most cases, after you modify the bandwidth limit of a hosted connection, the modification immediately takes effect. If the network latency is high, you may need to wait a few minutes. When you upgrade a hosted connection, you are charged a price difference between the original port specification and the new port specification. When you downgrade a hosted connection, you can apply for refunding the price difference between the original port specification and the new port specification.
Note For more information about how to request a refund when you downgrade a hosted connection, see Rules for canceling the subscription of an Alibaba Cloud service.
If the bandwidth limit of a hosted connection does not meet your business requirements, you can modify the bandwidth limit.

Modify the bandwidth limit of a hosted connection paid by a tenant

  1. The tenant contacts the Express Connect partner to modify the bandwidth limit of the hosted connection.
The Express Connect partner verifies that the new bandwidth limit requested by the tenant does not cause the total bandwidth of all hosted connections to exceed the bandwidth of the Express Connect circuit. If this condition is met, the Express Connect partner can modify the bandwidth limit of the hosted connection.
  2. The Express Connect partner modifies the bandwidth limit of the hosted connection.
    1. Log on to the Express Connect console.
    2. In the top navigation bar, select a region.
    3. On the Physical Connection page, click the ID of the Express Connect circuit that you want to manage.
    4. On the instance details page, click the Shared Physical Connection tab. On the Shared Physical Connection tab, find the hosted connection of the tenant and choose More > Modify Specification in the Actions column.
    5. In the Modify Shared Port dialog box, specify Change Bandwidth Limit and then click OK.
  3. The tenant confirms the bandwidth modification and completes the payment.
    1. Log on to the Express Connect console.
    2. In the top navigation bar, select a region.
    3. On the Physical Connection page, find the Express Connect circuit that you want to manage and click Modify and Pay in the Actions column.
    4. In the Modify and Pay panel, confirm the bandwidth limit, select Terms of Service, click Buy Now, and then complete the payment.

Return to the Physical Connection page. The page displays that the bandwidth limit of the hosted connection changes to the specified value and the Status of the hosted connection changes to Enabled. The Express Connect partner can view that the bandwidth limit of the hosted connection changes to the specified value and that the hosted connection is available on the Shared Physical Connection tab.

The system automatically changes the bandwidth limit of the VBR to the new bandwidth limit of the hosted connection.

Modify a hosted connection paid by an Express Connect partner

  6. In the panel that appears, confirm the bandwidth limit, select Terms of Service, click Buy Now, and then complete the payment.

Return to the Shared Physical Connection tab. The bandwidth limit of the hosted connection changes to the specified value. In addition, the Status of the hosted connection changes to Enabled. The tenant can view that the bandwidth limit of the hosted connection changes to the specified value and that the hosted connection is available on the Physical Connection page.

The system automatically changes the bandwidth limit of the VBR to the new bandwidth limit of the hosted connection.

Modify the bandwidth limit of a free VBR

You can modify the bandwidth limits of free VBRs.

Before you perform this operation, take note of the following limits.
LimitEffective timeScenario
The total bandwidth of all free VBRs that belong to an Express Connect circuit cannot exceed the bandwidth of the Express Connect circuit. In most cases, after you modify the bandwidth limit of a free VBR, the modification immediately takes effect. If the network latency is high, you may need to wait a few minutes. If the bandwidth limit of a free VBR does not meet your business requirements, you can modify the bandwidth limit.
  1. Log on to the Express Connect console.
  2. In the top navigation bar, select a region.
  3. On the Physical Connection page, click the ID of the Express Connect circuit that you want to manage.
  4. On the Exclusive Physical Connection details page, click the Virtual Border Routers (VBRs) tab, find the VBR instance that you want to manage, and then choose More > Bandwidth Settings in the Actions column.
  5. In the Bandwidth Settings panel, specify Bandwidth Cap and then click OK.
