E-MapReduce:Terms

Last Updated:Dec 09, 2024

This topic describes some basic terms related to E-MapReduce (EMR) Serverless StarRocks to help you better understand EMR Serverless StarRocks.

region

A region refers to the geographic location where an EMR Serverless StarRocks instance is located. You must specify a region when you create a Serverless StarRocks instance.

Important

After a Serverless StarRocks instance is created, you cannot change the region.

zone

A zone is a physical area that has independent power supplies and network facilities. Zones in the same region are connected to each other over the internal network. The network latency between instances in the same zone is lower than that between different zones.

StarRocks instance

A StarRocks cluster is called a StarRocks instance that consists of multiple frontend (FE) nodes and backend (BE) nodes.

FE

An FE node of StarRocks manages metadata and client connections, plans queries, and schedules queries. Each FE node retains the complete metadata in memory to provide undifferentiated services.

BE

A BE node of StarRocks stores data and executes SQL statements.

CN

In a StarRocks instance that uses the compute-storage separation architecture, a compute node (CN) is a stateless node that is used to manage the cache of hot data, run data import tasks, query tasks, and computing tasks, and process cached data.

EMR StarRocks Manager

EMR StarRocks Manager is a data management console provided by the Alibaba Cloud EMR team for Serverless StarRocks instances. EMR StarRocks Manager provides various features such as data management, diagnosis and analysis, and security permission configuration.
