This topic describes the basic terms for E-MapReduce (EMR) Serverless StarRocks.
Region
A region is the geographic location where an EMR Serverless StarRocks instance is deployed. Specify a region when you create a Serverless StarRocks instance.
After a Serverless StarRocks instance is created, you cannot change its region.
Zone
A zone is a physical area with independent power supplies and network facilities. Zones within the same region are connected over the internal network. Network latency between instances in the same zone is lower than latency across zones.
StarRocks instance
A StarRocks instance is a StarRocks cluster that consists of multiple frontend (FE) nodes and backend (BE) nodes.
FE
An FE node manages metadata and client connections, plans queries, and schedules their execution. Each FE node retains a complete copy of the metadata in memory, so all FE nodes provide equivalent services.
BE
A BE node stores data and executes SQL statements.
CN
In instances that use the compute-storage separation architecture, a compute node (CN) is a stateless node that manages the hot data cache, runs data import tasks, query tasks, and computing tasks, and processes cached data.
EMR StarRocks Manager
EMR StarRocks Manager is a data management console provided by the Alibaba Cloud EMR team for Serverless StarRocks instances. It supports data management, diagnosis and analysis, and security permission configuration.
