We recommend enabling release protection for pay-as-you-go clusters that run critical services or store important data. This prevents accidental cluster releases and their irreversible consequences. To release a cluster with this protection enabled, you must first disable it.
Limitations
This feature is available only for pay-as-you-go clusters of the following types: DataLake, Dataflow, OLAP, DataServing, or Custom.
Enable or disable release protection
You can enable or disable this feature during cluster creation or on an existing cluster.
Scenario 1: At cluster creation
To use release protection, you must manually enable it during cluster creation.
In the Basic Configuration step, in the Advanced Settings section, turn on the Release Protection switch.
Scenario 2: For an existing cluster

Log on to the E-MapReduce console.

On the EMR on ECS page, click the cluster name.

On the Basic Information page, in the Cluster Information section, toggle the Release Protection switch.

Click OK.
Check release protection status
On the EMR on ECS page, click a cluster's name to go to its Basic Information page. In the Cluster Information section, check the Release Protection field.

On: release protection is enabled.

Off: release protection is disabled.
