When data on a disk is lost due to system failure or operation error, you can use snapshots to restore the disk data to the point in time when the snapshot was created.


  • A snapshot is available for you to restore data.
  • The cloud desktop is stopped. For more information, see Stop cloud desktops.
  • The data that you want to restore is backed up.

    You can create a snapshot and save it as a backup or manually back up the data to another disk.

    Warning Restoration cannot be undone. Proceed with caution. After you restore disk data, the disk is restored to the state at the point in time when the snapshot was created. Data created between the time when the snapshot was created and the current time is lost. Make sure that you back up important data before you restore a disk.


  1. Log on to the EDS console.
  2. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.
  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Cloud Desktops > Desktops.
  4. On the Cloud Desktops page, find the cloud desktop for which you want to restore data and click the cloud desktop ID.
  5. On the desktop details page, click the Snapshots tab. Find the snapshot that you want to use and click Restore Desktop in the Actions column.
    If the cloud desktop is not stopped, you are redirected to the prompt page. Click OK. After you stop the cloud desktop, you can perform the next step.
  6. In the Restore Desktop panel, verify the displayed information about the snapshot and click Restore Desktop.
    Notice You can restore the data of a single disk at a time. Do not perform any other operations on the disk during the restoration. After the backup and restoration, the data of the entire disk instead of individual partitions or directories is restored to the status at the point in time.

What to do next

A prompt is displayed when the disk data is restored. You can log on to the cloud desktop to check the data restoration status.
