Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) provides the convenience account system for simple scenarios in which you do not need to connect to enterprise Active Directory (AD) systems. This topic describes how to create a convenience user.

Background information

EDS provides two account types: the convenience account and enterprise AD account. Convenience accounts are dedicated EDS user accounts and suitable for scenarios in which you do not need to connect to enterprise AD systems. When you create a convenience user, you need to enter the username, email address, and mobile number. The username and email address are mandatory.
Note Make sure that the email address is valid. After you create the convenience user, assign cloud desktops to the convenience user. If you want to revoke EDS permissions from the user or change the password of the user, the system sends notifications to the email address.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the EDS console.
  2. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.
  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click User management.
  4. On the Users page, click Create User.
  5. In the Create User panel, select one of the following methods to import user information:
    • Manual entry
      1. Enter the username, email address, and mobile number. Then, click Create User.
      2. Optional: Repeat the previous step to add more users.
    • Batch entry
      1. Click the Batch entry tab.
      2. Use one of the following methods to prepare a user information file:
        • Click Download, open the downloaded template, enter the user information in the format provided by the template, and then save the file.
        • Use Microsoft Excel to enter user information and save the file as a CSV file.
Note When you enter the information about a user, you must specify the username and email address in the first and second columns. The third column is for the mobile number of the user, which is optional.
      3. Click Select File to select the CSV file that contains the user information.

The system imports the information about users provided in the file. After you import the CSV file, you can check whether the information about all users is imported. If you failed to import the file, check whether the user information in the CSV file is in valid format.

  6. Click Close.
After you create the convenience user, you can view the information about the user on the Users page. The user status is Normal.
