If configurations of a cloud desktop in Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) cannot meet your business requirements, you can change the configurations. For example, you can change vCPUs, memory size, GPUs, and disk sizes. This topic describes how to change configurations of a cloud desktop.

Prerequisites

The cloud desktop whose configurations you want to change is in the Stopped state. For more information, see Stop a cloud desktop.

Background information

When you change configurations of a cloud desktop, you can change the desktop type and resize disks. After you change the configurations of the cloud desktop, data on the cloud desktop is not affected. You must take note of the following items:
  • Each desktop type contains different desktop specifications, such as vCPUs, memory size, and GPUs. You cannot change only one of these specifications. If you want to change the desktop specifications, you must change the desktop type. In addition, the specifications of Enterprise Office and General Office types cannot be changed to that of the Enterprise Graphics type, and vice versa.
  • You can only scale up system disks and data disks.
  • If your cloud desktop uses the subscription billing method, the price difference is calculated based on the price before and after configuration changes. You may receive a refund, or pay for the price difference.
  • If you want to change the configurations of your cloud desktop for multiple times, we recommend that you wait at least 5 minutes the next time you change the configurations of the same cloud desktop.

Change configurations of a subscription cloud desktop

Note Before you change configurations of a subscription cloud desktop, make sure that no pending order exists. If a pending order exists, you may fail to change the configurations. If a pending order exists, go to the EDS console and perform the following operations to pay for or cancel the order: Click Expenses in the top navigation bar and click Orders on the Billing Management page to proceed.
  1. Log on to the EDS console.
  2. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.
  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Desktops and Groups > Desktops.
  4. On the Cloud Desktops page, find the subscription cloud desktop whose configurations you want to change, click More in the Actions column, and then click Change Configurations.
  5. In the Change Configurations panel, upgrade or downgrade the cloud desktop based on your business requirements.
    • Upgrade the cloud desktop
      1. Click the Upgrade tab.
      2. If you want to upgrade the specifications of vCPUs, memory, or GPUs, select the desktop type whose specifications best fit your needs.
        Note You can select a desktop type that only has higher specifications than those of the current desktop type. The available desktop types are displayed on the Upgrade tab.
      3. If you want to scale up a disk, resize the system disk or data disk based on your business requirements.
      4. Confirm the fees and click Confirm.
      5. Complete the payment before you can proceed.
    • Downgrade the cloud desktop
      Note You can downgrade a cloud desktop for at most three times. Whether you can downgrade the current desktop type to a new type is subject to the available desktop types displayed on the Downgrade tab.
      1. Click the Downgrade tab.
      2. Select the new desktop type whose specifications best fit your needs.
        You can downgrade only the specifications of vCPUs, memory, and GPUs for your current desktop type. You cannot scale down disks.
        Note When you downgrade the cloud desktop, you are charged based on the unit price for the new desktop type. Cloud desktops of the Enterprise Office type and Enterprise Graphics type are more cost-effective than cloud desktops of the General-based type. If your cloud desktop is of the General-based type, you can downgrade the desktop type to the Enterprise-based type. Although you downgraded the current desktop type, the new desktop type has better configurations that deliver higher performance.       3. Confirm the refund that the system offers and click Confirm.
  6. Start the cloud desktop whose configurations you have changed and check whether the new configurations take effect.

Change configurations of a pay-as-you-go cloud desktop

  1. Log on to the EDS console.
  2. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region.
  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Desktops and Groups > Desktops.
  4. On the Cloud Desktops page, find the pay-as-you-go cloud desktop whose configurations you want to change, click More in the Actions column, and then click Change Configurations.
  5. In the Change Configurations panel, change the cloud desktop type and resize disks based on your business requirements.
  6. Confirm the fees and click Modify.
  7. Start the cloud desktop whose configurations you have changed and check whether the new configurations take effect.
