Elastic Compute Service:Manage quotas

Last Updated:Apr 12, 2024

Before purchasing or upgrading Elastic Compute Service (ECS) resources like instances, storage, and bandwidth, you need to check whether your account has sufficient quotas or privileges.

Types of ECS quotas

The following table describes the quotas in ECS.

Type

Description

Operation in the ECS console

API operation

Resource quota (displayed in the Quota Center as Elastic Compute Service)

Resource quotas are quotas for ECS resources such as images, disks, and security groups. You can request a resource quota increase based on your business needs.

Instance quota (displayed in Quota Center as ECS Quotas by Instance Type)

Instance quotas are allocated based on zones, instance types, billing methods, and network types. You can request an instance quota increase based on your business needs.

Instance quota description

In the console, you can view your quota amounts in the past 15 days. The system dynamically adjusts your instance quota based on your actual usage. You do not need to worry about applying for additional quotas in the case of insufficient quotas due to a large number of instances within your account. Example:

  • On August 16, when you query your quotas, the total amount from August 2 to August 16 is displayed, and the used amount is calculated based on the instances that were created and are in the running state from August 2 to August 16.

  • If the base quota remains constant and you have not applied to increase the total quota, the total quota remains unchanged when you query it on August 17. The used amount is calculated based on the instances that were created and are in the running state from August 3 to August 17.

Note
  • The data may take up to 24 hours to update, but you can create instances as normal during this latency of update.

  • In addition, instance quotas can be classified into instance type-specific quotas and zone-specific vCPU-based total quotas for all instance types. You do not need to change the zone-specific vCPU-based total quota for all instance types. This value is always greater than the number of vCPUs that you require.
