:Windows 2008 and 2012 instances cannot enable the Allow Remote Assistance to connect to this computer option in Remote Assistance

Problem description

When remote assistance is enabled for an ECS instance of a Windows system, remote assistance is grayed out and cannot be checked.


This feature is not enabled.


Take note of the following items:

  • Before you perform high-risk operations such as modifying the specifications or data of an Alibaba Cloud instance, we recommend that you check the disaster recovery and fault tolerance capabilities of the instance to ensure data security.
  • Before you modify the specifications or data of an Alibaba Cloud instance, such as an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance or an ApsaraDB RDS instance, we recommend that you create snapshots or enable backups for the instance. For example, you can enable log backups for an ApsaraDB RDS instance.
  • If you have granted specific users the permissions on sensitive information, such as usernames and passwords, or submitted sensitive information in the Alibaba Cloud Management Console, we recommend that you modify the sensitive information at the earliest opportunity.

Windows 2008 Solutions

  1. Log on to the instance, choose Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Server Manager > Features, and click Add Features on the right.
  2. Select Remote Assistance and click Next until it is complete.

Windows 2012 Solutions

  1. Log on to the instance and click Server Manager in the Winodws taskbar. 
  2. In the Server Manager dialog box that appears, click Add Roles and Features
  3. In the Add Role and Feature wizard that appears, click Next until Feature Settings section, select Remote Assistance, and click Next until completion.
