Edge Security Acceleration (ESA) offers two types of DNS setups: CNAME and NS. This topic guide you through the steps to convert from NS setup to CNAME or vice versa.
Scenarios
If you have configured one of the two setups, you can convert to the other one:
NS to CNAME: If you prefer not to use ESA for your DNS resolution proxy, switch to the CNAME setup by updating your DNS configuration at the new provider.
CNAME to NS: To enhance DNS security services and streamline subsequent CNAME configurations, switch to the NS setup.
For more information about the differences between CNAME and NS setups, see DNS.
NS to CNAME
The following steps guide you through converting your DNS setup from NS to CNAME.
Converting to CNAME is not supported if your service location is Global or Chinese Mainland, and the Proxy Status of the DNS record is DNS Only. You can update your service location first.
Migrate DNS records and convert the setup
Before converting, migrate your website's DNS records to the new DNS provider to prevent them from becoming invalid.
In the ESA console, choose Websites and click the website name you want to manage.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
In the Convert To CNAME Setup area, click Convert.
Click Download All Records And CNAMEs, and configure DNS records at your DNS service provider according to the downloaded file.
Make sure you have migrated the DNS records to a new service provider, and then click I Have Migrated DNS Records And Confirm to Convert.
