Alibaba Cloud Dynamic Content Delivery Network (DCDN) offers resource plans to help reduce costs. Use the following case study to select a plan that fits your needs.
Selection guidelines
Choose a resource plan based on your required features, business volume, and accelerated region.
- To purchase a resource plan, visit the buy page.
- For information about billing for services covered by a resource plan, see DCDN pricing.
Note
- If you purchase a DCDN outbound data transfer resource plan, you must use pay-by-data-transfer metering. If you use a different method, plan resources are frozen until you switch. To change the metering method, see Change the metering method.
- Use resource plans before they expire. Expired plans become invalid and cannot be refunded.
Example
Scenario
Assume that you want to accelerate content delivery for a small community website. The requirements are as follows:
- Website acceleration service: A small community website. Content to accelerate includes images, text, and on-demand video.
- Accelerated region: Chinese mainland.
- Other services: The website uses an Object Storage Service (OSS) bucket to store image and video files and HTTPS secure acceleration for secure data transfer.
- Estimated resource consumption:
Item Estimated consumption Outbound data transfer - Daily peak bandwidth: approximately 1 Gbps
- Outbound data transfer: 3.16 TB/day, 95 TB/month, 570 TB/six months, 1,140 TB/year
HTTPS requests for static content - Daily peak queries per second (QPS): approximately 3,000
- Number of requests: approximately 78 million/day, 2.33 billion/month, 27.96 billion/year
OSS outbound traffic OSS outbound traffic cost depends on the DCDN cache hit ratio. A higher cache hit ratio lowers OSS costs.
For example, if both the byte hit ratio and request hit ratio are 90%, only 10% of traffic and requests are routed back to the origin server. For details about OSS fees, see OSS Pricing.
Analysis
- 1. Determine billable items and plan types
Feature and billable item Resource plan Basic features: outbound data transfer Outbound data transfer plan - 2. Determine plan capacity and duration
Outbound data transfer plan: Select a plan based on your expected data transfer consumption and the options available on the buy page.
Estimate Capacity Duration Pros and cons 95 TB/month 50 TB 1 month Requires two purchases per month, which is too frequent. 570 TB/six months 200 TB 6 months Requires purchasing three plans to cover six months of usage. This option is often discounted. 1,140 TB/year 1 PB 1 year Because traffic can fluctuate as a small community website grows, a one-year subscription is often too long and may result in wasted resources. - 3. Recommended resource plans
Outbound data transfer plan:
- Commodity type: DCDN resource plan
- Resource plan type: Outbound data transfer
- Capacity: 200 TB
- Accelerated region: Chinese mainland
- Subscription duration: 6 months
