Last Updated:Nov 24, 2025

What are the features of Alibaba Cloud Marketplace images?

Alibaba Cloud Marketplace images are available in various types, including base operating system images and images with pre-installed software environments. These environments include runtimes such as .NET, PHP, JAVA, and LAMP, control panels, and website building systems. You can use these images to quickly deploy runtime environments or software applications on your Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances without needing to configure environments or install software.

Alibaba Cloud Marketplace offers over 2,000 high-quality images from Alibaba Cloud and third-party service providers. These images fully support the deployment of runtime environments such as .NET, PHP, Java, LAMP, and Docker containers. They also meet custom needs for website building, application development, and visualization management.

How do I purchase an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image?

You must purchase an image along with an ECS instance. The image and the instance must have the same lifecycle. You can purchase an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image in two ways:

  • You can search for an image in Alibaba Cloud Marketplace. On the product page, click Buy Now. You are then redirected to the custom ECS purchase page.

  • On the custom ECS purchase page, select Marketplace Image. Then, search for an image by keyword to purchase it.

How are Alibaba Cloud Marketplace images billed?

You must purchase an image along with an ECS instance. The image and the instance must have the same lifecycle and billing method.

  • ECS instances support two billing methods: subscription and pay-as-you-go. The billing method that you select for the ECS instance, either subscription or pay-as-you-go, is also applied to the image.

  • The image provider determines the pricing for subscription and pay-as-you-go Alibaba Cloud Marketplace images. Some images are 0 USD, while others are not 0 USD. Please refer to the price displayed at the time of purchase.

How is a custom image billed if its base image is from Alibaba Cloud Marketplace?

If you use an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image to create an ECS instance and then create a custom image from that instance, the base image of the custom image is the original Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image.

  • When you use such a custom image to create an ECS instance, the image fee is the same as the fee for the original Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image.

  • If you share such a custom image with another account or copy it to another region, its price is inherited from the original Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image.

Are Alibaba Cloud Marketplace images secure?

Yes. Alibaba Cloud Marketplace images are published by Alibaba Cloud and third-party service providers that have extensive experience in system maintenance and environment configuration. All images are created from official Alibaba Cloud operating systems that include Security Center. The images must also pass a strict security review before they are published. You can use them with confidence.

What should I do if I encounter a problem when I install or use an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image?

Check the service information on the image's product page in Alibaba Cloud Marketplace. You can contact the image service provider directly through Wangwang, phone, or email for real-time support.

How can I use an API to identify an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image, or a custom or shared image derived from it?

  • To determine if an image is an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image or a derived custom or shared image, call the DescribeImages operation with the image ID to query the image details. If the ProductCode in the return value is not empty, the image is an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image or a derived custom or shared image.

  • For example, if the ProductCode of an image is abcd000111, you can visit https://marketplace.alibabacloud.com/products/1/abcd000111.html to view the image details.

Do Alibaba Cloud Marketplace images support refunds? If so, how are the fees calculated?

To determine if an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image supports refunds, check the description on its product page. If a refund is supported, the image provider issues a refund based on your actual usage.

For a pay-as-you-go ECS instance created from an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace image, is the image still billed during downtime if economical mode is enabled?

Yes, it is. Paid Alibaba Cloud Marketplace images do not support economical mode. For more information, see Economical mode.

Do Red Hat and SUSE images support refunds?

No, they do not. By default, ECS instances that use Red Hat or SUSE images do not support refunds, as indicated on the product pages in Alibaba Cloud Marketplace. If you need a refund for the ECS instance, submit a ticket. The fees for the Red Hat and SUSE images are non-refundable. After the ECS instance is refunded, you cannot use the corresponding image for other ECS instances.

When an ECS instance is upgraded or downgraded, are the fees for Red Hat and SUSE images adjusted?

Yes, they are. The price of a commercial Red Hat or SUSE image varies based on the number of vCPUs. When you upgrade or downgrade the ECS instance, the image fee is adjusted accordingly, and the price difference is charged or refunded. For information about refunds for instance downgrades, see Unsubscription rules for the international site (alibabacloud.com).
