This topic describes the billable items and billing methods of E-MapReduce (EMR).
Billable items
The fees for the use of an EMR cluster consist of fees for the EMR service, Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances, and Internet traffic of the master node of the cluster.
The actual price on the buy page shall prevail.

EMR service | EMR provides multi-dimensional cluster management features, such as page display and control, support for API operations and SDKs, monitoring and alerting, O&M tools, and automatic server-side O&M. For more information about the pricing of the EMR service, see Subscription or Pay-as-you-go based on the selected billing method. Important You cannot stop the billing of the EMR service by disabling nodes. If ECS instances are not released, you are charged for the instances. If you no longer need to use the EMR service, release all ECS instances to stop the billing. |
ECS instances | ECS instances support two billing methods: subscription and pay-as-you-go. For more information about the billing details of ECS instances, see Billing overview. The billing method of ECS instances that are used for an EMR cluster is determined by the billing method you selected when you purchase the EMR cluster.
Note When you create an EMR cluster, the system purchases and creates ECS instances for the EMR cluster based on the node specifications you select. You do not need to prepare ECS instances for the cluster in advance. |
Internet traffic of the master node | By default, 8 Mbit/s Internet bandwidth is enabled for the master node of an EMR cluster. In a high availability cluster, 8 Mbit/s Internet bandwidth is enabled for each master node of the EMR cluster by default. The Internet traffic fee of the master node is not included in the EMR service fee and is separately calculated. The pay-as-you-go billing method is used for the Internet traffic of the master node. The fee for outbound Internet traffic is calculated on an hourly basis. Inbound Internet traffic is free of charge. For example, if the outbound Internet traffic consumed within 1 hour is 10 GB, the fee per hour is calculated by using the following formula: 10 GB × Price per GB (Unit: USD). Billing methods
EMR supports the subscription and pay-as-you-go billing methods. When you purchase a cluster, you can select a billing method based on your business requirements.
Billing method | Description |
Subscription | Subscription is a billing method in which you must pay for resources before you can use them. You are charged for the resources based on the subscription duration, which is specified in months or years. For more information, see Subscription. |
Pay-as-you-go | Pay-as-you-go is a billing method that allows you to use resources before you pay for them. Bills are generated on an hourly basis at the top of every hour (UTC+8). For more information, see Pay-as-you-go. |
Billing rules for related services
