Domain name selection and rules
Can I register multiple domain names for one website?
Yes. There is no limit on the number of domain names that an individual or organization can register. You can also register multiple domain names for the same website. Registering domain names with different suffixes or similar content has several benefits.
You can register multiple suffixes for the same domain name, such as www.company-name.net and www.company-name.com. This protects your brand's uniqueness and prevents others from registering similar names. You can also use these domain names with different suffixes to create multiple websites in local languages to communicate with people in other countries.
You can point multiple different domain names to the same website. This makes it easier for Internet users to find your website. They can find your website even if they enter the wrong name or do not know the exact spelling.
You can associate different domain names with websites for special promotions or ad campaigns. This helps promote an event, a new product, or a new project.
You can register a domain name with a .com or .net suffix to send emails. This makes your communication more professional. Your email address contains your company or brand name instead of a generic email service, such as Hotmail or Gmail.
What should I do if the domain name I want is already registered?
Domain names are unique. After a domain name is registered, no one else can register it. You can try to search for and register the same domain name with a different suffix. For example, if the domain name "example.com" is already registered, you can register "example.net" or "example.org". They function in the same way.
If you want to acquire a domain name that is already registered, you can contact the current registrant to ask if they are willing to transfer the domain name.
What is the maximum registration period for a domain name?
The maximum registration period for a .co domain name is 5 years. For other common domain names, such as .com, .net, and .cn, the maximum registration period is 10 years.
How can I check if my domain name was registered successfully?
You can log on to the Alibaba Cloud Domain Names registration home page and search for your registered domain name.
If the search result shows that the domain name is Registered and its registration information is in the WHOIS database, the domain name was registered successfully. Check if the domain name registration information is correct. If it is incorrect, log on to the Alibaba Cloud account that owns the domain name to modify the registration information. For more information, see Modify registrant information or transfer domain name ownership.
Post-registration management and status
What should I do if my domain name purchase is always in the 'processing' state?
There are several reasons why an order may remain in the 'processing' state after you purchase and pay for a domain name:
Incorrect domain name registration information
If the domain name registration information you entered is incorrect, it will not pass the domain name registry's review. Alibaba Cloud reviews orders in the 'processing' state on the same day. If your registration information is found to be incorrect, Alibaba Cloud helps you correct it and resubmits it to the registry. This process is typically completed within one business day. Please wait for the status to update.
A system upgrade may cause your order to be temporarily in the 'processing' state. The backend system automatically resubmits the order to complete the purchase. If this occurs, you can wait 30 minutes and then check the status again.
Can a registered domain name be modified or refunded?
A successfully registered domain name cannot be modified or refunded. If you registered the wrong domain name, you can register the correct one again.
Can I immediately delete a domain name that I registered but do not want?
If you entered incorrect information when registering a domain name or want to delete it for other reasons, you can go to the Paid Domain Name Deletion page to delete the domain name for a fee. After the deletion is successful, the original registration fee is fully refunded.
Can I delete a domain name after its grace period for deletion has passed?
A domain name cannot be deleted after its grace period for deletion has passed.
The paid domain name deletion feature is available only during the grace period for deletion after registration. This period is typically within five days of registration but varies by suffix. For more information about the grace period, click View Deletion Price Details in the console.
To unregister a .gov.cn domain name after registration, you must submit a valid domain name unregistration application form and identity documents to a domain name registrar such as Alibaba Cloud. The registrar reviews the documents and unregisters the domain name upon approval.
