A naming dictionary can be used to manage the roots and morphemes of business terms, physical tables, and fields and the standardized translation of the roots and morphemes. DataWorks Data Standard allows you to create naming dictionaries and export existing naming dictionaries. This topic describes how to perform the preceding operations.

Create a single naming dictionary

To create a single naming dictionary, perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the Dimensional Modeling page.
  2. Go to the Naming Dictionary page.
    1. In the top navigation bar of the Dimensional Modeling page, click Data Standard to go to the Data Standard page.
    2. In the left-side navigation pane of the Data Standard page, click Naming Dictionary to go to the Naming Dictionary page.
  3. Create a single naming dictionary.
    1. On the Naming Dictionary page, click Create.
    2. In the Create Naming Dictionary dialog box, configure the parameters.

      Parameter Description
      Display Name The display name of the naming dictionary. The display name can contain letters, digits, underscores (_), ampersands (&), and parentheses () and must start with a letter or digit.
      Name The name of the naming dictionary. The name can contain letters, digits, underscores (_), and ampersands (&) and must start with a letter or digit.
      Abbreviation The abbreviation of the naming dictionary name. The abbreviation can contain lowercase letters and digits.
    3. After the parameters are configured, click OK.
      You can view the created naming dictionary on the Naming Dictionary page.

Create multiple naming dictionaries at a time

You can create a large number of naming dictionaries at a time by using the template file provided by DataWorks. You must configure the required information about the naming dictionaries that you want to create in the template file and import the file to DataWorks.

  1. Go to the Naming Dictionary page by following the instructions provided in the preceding section and click Import.
  2. In the Import dialog box, configure Import Mode, download the template file, configure the required information about naming dictionaries in the file, and then upload the file.
    Import
    1. In the Import dialog box, set Import Mode to Ignore Existing Objects with Same Name or Overwrite Existing Objects with Same Name.
    2. Click Download Template to download the template file.
    3. In the downloaded template file, configure the following parameters for all the naming dictionaries that you want to create and save the template file.
      Parameter Description
      Display Name The display name of the naming dictionary. The display name can contain letters, digits, underscores (_), ampersands (&), and parentheses () and must start with a letter or digit.
      Name The name of the naming dictionary. The name can contain letters, digits, underscores (_), and ampersands (&) and must start with a letter or digit.
      Abbreviation The abbreviation of the naming dictionary name. The abbreviation can contain lowercase letters and digits.
      Note If you cannot edit the template file after you download it, click Start Edit in the upper part of the template file.
    4. Click Select File. Then, select the template file that you saved and click OK.
      You can view the import result and details in the Import dialog box. Import complete

Export naming dictionaries

Select the naming dictionaries that you want to export and click Batch Export in the lower part of the Naming Dictionary page. You can also click Batch Export in the upper part of the Naming Dictionary page to export all naming dictionaries. Export
