The backup download feature of ApsaraDB RDS is about to be upgraded and commercially released. In the commercial release, a free quota for backup downloads over the Internet is provided. If the traffic that you consume for downloading backup files over the Internet exceeds the free quota, you are charged additional fees.

Commercial release of the backup download feature

  • ApsaraDB RDS instances that are equipped with local SSDs: The commercial release is scheduled to be available in some of the Alibaba Cloud regions since 00:00 on November 25, 2021 and available in all Alibaba Cloud regions since 00:00 on December 2, 2021.
  • ApsaraDB RDS instances that are equipped with standard SSDs or enhanced SSDs (ESSDs): The effective date and time are not specified.

  • Downloads over an internal network: You are not charged for the traffic that you consume. You can log on to your Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance and use the internal URL to download the backup file.
  • Downloads over the Internet: A free quota for backup downloads is provided. You are charged only for the excess traffic that you consume. For more information, see Billing overview.
Free quota A 500-GB free quota for backup downloads over the Internet is provided per month for each RDS instance.
Billing frequency You are charged once per day.

Upgrade of the backup download feature

The upgrade of the backup download feature is scheduled to be completed in January 2022. After the upgrade is complete, the backup download feature can provide the following capabilities:
  • Converts snapshot backup files or physical backup files to logical backup files that are stored in formats such as SQL, CSV, and Parquet. These formats can meet the business requirements in various scenarios such as testing, offline data analysis and statistics, and big data analysis.
  • Allows you to download the logical backup files that are converted from snapshot backup files or physical backup files.
