You can use Hybrid Backup Recovery (HBR) to back up SQL Server databases deployed on Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances. You can also restore the databases based on your business requirements. The HBR console provides a powerful and user-friendly interface that you can use to back up SQL Server databases. This topic describes the preparations that you must make before you back up SQL Server databases.

  1. If you want to back up a database deployed on an ECS instance, you must install Cloud Assistant for the ECS instance.
An HBR backup client for ECS must be used in combination with Cloud Assistant.
    • If you purchased your ECS instance before December 1, 2017, you must install the Cloud Assistant client. For more information, see Install the Cloud Assistant client.
    • For ECS instances that are purchased on or after December 1, 2017, a pre-installed Cloud Assistant client is provided.
  2. The username and password that you use to access the ApsaraDB RDS for SQL Server database are obtained.
