Media storage

ApsaraVideo VOD provides a storage service for media files. You are charged based on the size of the storage space that is occupied by media files and the traffic that is generated when you download media files from the storage location.

  • Storage space

Billing rule: You are charged based on the size of the storage space that is occupied by media files in different regions. The fees are calculated on an hourly basis.

Billing cycle: You are billed for the storage space on an hourly basis. The fees are automatically deducted from the balance of your Alibaba Cloud account. Bills are generally generated after a billing cycle ends. The time when bills are generated is determined by the system.

We recommend that you purchase storage plans of ApsaraVideo VOD. For more information, see Storage plans of ApsaraVideo VOD. To purchase storage plans, visit the VOD Storage Plan page.

    >50 GB 0.0173 0.02 0.02 0.0209 0.019 0.02
    Billing example

For example, the storage space that you occupy in mainland China until 11:00:00 on a day is 2,050 GB. The storage fee for the billing cycle from 10:00:00 to 11:00:00 on the day is calculated by using the following formula: 0.0173/(24 × 30) × (2,050 - 50) = USD 0.048.

  • Outbound traffic of the storage service

You are charged based on the downstream traffic that is generated when you download or play videos from the storage location in ApsaraVideo VOD over the Internet.

Billing rule: The fees for the outbound traffic of the storage service are calculated based on the traffic that is generated when you download video files from ApsaraVideo VOD over the Internet without Alibaba Cloud CDN in different regions.

Billing cycle: You are billed for the outbound traffic of the storage service on an hourly basis. The fees are automatically deducted from the balance of your Alibaba Cloud account. Bills are generally generated after a billing cycle ends. The time when bills are generated is determined by the system.

For example, you download three video files by using URLs in mainland China from 08:00:00 to 09:00:00 on a day. The sizes of the files are 1.2 GB, 0.7 GB, and 0.5 GB. The fees for the outbound traffic of the storage service are calculated by using the following formula: (1.2 + 0.7 + 0.5) × 0.077 = USD 0.185.

Media transcoding

Fees for regular transcoding and Narrowband HD TM 1.0 transcoding are calculated based on the supported specifications of the transcoded files. The following table describes the pricing rules in mainland China.

Billing rule: The fee is equal to the sum of transcoding fees for various supported specifications. Transcoding fee for a specific specification = Duration of the output file × Unit price.

Billing cycle: You are billed for media transcoding on an hourly basis. The fees are automatically deducted from the balance of your Alibaba Cloud account. Bills are generally generated one hour after a billing cycle ends. The time when bills are generated is determined by the system.

Billing specifications: The resolution of an output video is determined by the width and height of the video. For example, if the height of a video is not greater than 1280 pixels and the width is not greater than 720 pixels, the video resolution is standard definition (SD): 1280 × 720 pixels or lower. If the height of a video is greater than 1280 pixels or the width is greater than 720 pixels, the video has a higher resolution.

We recommend that you purchase transcoding plans of ApsaraVideo VOD. For more information, see Transcoding plans of ApsaraVideo VOD. To purchase transcoding plans, visit the VOD Transcoding Plan page.

Billing example

For example, you use the transcoding service in mainland China from 08:00:00 to 09:00:00 on a day. You perform regular transcoding to transcode an H.264 video whose length is 200 minutes to an LD video with a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels. You also perform Narrowband HD™ 1.0 transcoding to transcode the same video to an SD video with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. The transcoding fee for the billing cycle from 08:00:00 to 09:00:00 on the day is calculated by using the following formula: 200 × 0.0034 + 200 × 0.015 = USD 3.68.

Note
  1. Alibaba Cloud adjusted the transcoding fees of ApsaraVideo VOD on October 11, 2018. You are no longer charged when you transcode videos to resolutions of 960 × 540 pixels or lower.
  2. Duration of the output file: Transcoding is charged by second.
  3. Resolution selection: You can perform only regular transcoding in the console. If you want to perform Narrowband HD™ transcoding, submit a ticket.
  4. Frame animation: The fees for frame animation are included in the transcoding fees and are calculated based on the same billing standards as video transcoding.
  5. Narrowband HD™ 2.0 is available only in the China (Beijing) and China (Shanghai) regions. To enable Narrowband HD™ 2.0, submit a ticket.

Data transfer

Scenario: The traffic curve shows substantial fluctuations and bandwidth spikes. The daily bandwidth utilization is lower than 30%.

Billing rule: You are charged based on the amount of generated network traffic in each region inside and outside mainland China. Billing is based on different pricing tiers. The amount that exceeds the quota in the current pricing tier is charged based on the next pricing tier. The tiers are reset at the beginning of each new calendar month. The conversion scale for traffic is 1024. For example, 1 GB is equal to 1,024 MB.

Billing cycle: You are billed for the generated network traffic on an hourly basis. The fees are automatically deducted from the balance of your Alibaba Cloud account. Bills are generally generated after a billing cycle ends. The time when bills are generated is determined by the system.

We recommend that you purchase data transfer plans of ApsaraVideo VOD. For more information, see Data transfer plans of ApsaraVideo VOD. To purchase data transfer plans, visit the VOD Data Transfer Plan page.
