A storage plan is a subscription-based resource plan for PolarDB. You can use storage plans to offset storage fees and fees for level-1 backups that exceed the free quota. Storage plans can help you reduce costs for storage resources and level-1 backups. A storage plan of larger capacity and longer duration delivers higher cost reduction. For example, a monthly storage plan provides 10%-45% savings when compared with the price of a comparable pay-as-you-go cluster. The longer the duration of the plan is, the more you save. If you purchase annual storage plans, you can save an additional 15% off the monthly price. This topic describes the billing rules of storage plans and how to purchase a storage plan.
Fees that can be offset by storage plans
You are eligible for storage plans when you use the following resources:
Storage for pay-as-you-go clusters
The storage of each PolarDB cluster is charged based on the volume and storage duration of data. If you require a large storage capacity, such as 1,000 GB or more, we recommend that you use storage plans to reduce costs.
NoteStorage plans can be used only on clusters that use the pay-as-you-go billing method for storage, and cannot be used on clusters that use the subscription billing method for storage.
Level-1 backups that exceed the free quota
The remaining capacity of a storage plan after offsetting the storage of PolarDB clusters is automatically used to offset the level-1 backup storage space that exceeds the free quota. If the remaining capacity of the storage plan is insufficient to offset the level-1 backup storage space, you are charged for additional storage space on a pay-as-you-go basis. Storage plans provide cost savings over regular pay-as-you-go plans. The larger the volume of the storage plan (capacity and duration), the more costs you save.

Precautions
- Storage plans can be used by all PolarDB clusters in the regions that are specified by the Plan Type parameter. You can select Mainland China or China (Hong Kong) and regions outside China.
- If the capacity of your storage plan is insufficient, you can Upgrade a storage plan. However, storage plans cannot be downgraded.
- If the amount of used storage exceeds the capacity of your storage plan, you are charged for the additional storage resources based on the pay-as-you-go billing method.
For example, assume that you have created three PolarDB clusters that each requires 400 GB of storage. If you purchase a storage plan of 1,000 GB and these clusters share the storage plan, the storage resources used in excess of 200 GB are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. Procedure
Log on to the PolarDB console.
In the upper-left corner of the page, click Create Cluster.
Set Billing Method to Storage Plan and configure the parameters described in the following table.

Chinese Mainland: The storage plan can be used by all PolarDB clusters that are deployed in regions inside the Chinese mainland, such as China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), and China (Beijing).
