Data Management:Manage database owners

This topic describes how to set specific users as database owners. This topic also describes how to grant permissions such as the query and export permissions to specific users.

Usage notes

  • The database owners that you want to specify must be users who are registered with Data Management (DMS). For more information about how to register a user with DMS, see Manage users.

  • The database owner is a resource role of DMS. For more information, see Resource roles.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the DMS console V5.0.
  2. In the top navigation bar, choose Data Assets > Instances. On the Instances page, click the Database List tab.

  3. Set the filter conditions such as the instance endpoint or name to search for the database that you want to manage.

  4. Select the database and perform the following operations on the database based on your business requirements:

    • Set owners

      Click Set Owner. In the Set Data Owner dialog box, select a user as the owner of the database. Then, click OK.

      Note
      • Only users who have been registered with DMS are displayed in the drop-down list.

      • You can specify up to three users as the owners of the database.

    • Change owners

      Click Transfer Ownership. In the Transfer Ownership dialog box, select a user from the Original Owner drop-down list and a user from the Target Owner drop-down list. Then, click OK.

      Note

      You can select up to three users from the Target Owner drop-down list.

    • Release owners

      Click Release Owner. In the Release Owner dialog box, select one or more users from the Original Owner drop-down list. Then, click OK.

    • Grant the query, export, or change permissions on databases to users

      1. Click Authorize User.

      2. In the Authorize User dialog box, configure the parameters and click OK. The following table describes the parameters.

        Parameter

        Description

        Add User

        The users to which you want to grant the permissions. You can select multiple users.

        Permission

        The permissions that you want to grant to the selected users. Valid values: Query, Export, and Change.

        Expire Date

        The validity period of the permissions.

    • Revoke permissions

      Click Recycle Permission. In the Recycle Permission dialog box, configure the parameters and click OK. The following table describes the parameters.

      Parameter

      Description

      Recycler

      The database owners whose permissions you want to revoke. You can select one or more users.

      Note

      If you select a user who is not an owner of the database, an error message appears when you click OK. Make sure that you select a correct owner of the database.

      Permission

      The permissions that you want to revoke from the selected users. Valid values: Query, Export, and Change. You can select one or more permissions.

What to do next

  • Export database configurations. On the Database List tab, find one or more databases that you want to manage and choose More > Export config to export the database configurations to your on-premises device in an Excel file. You can view the information such as the instance status, environment, database administrator (DBA), and owners of the database in the downloaded file.

  • Export the granted permissions on databases. On the Database List tab, find one or more databases that you want to manage and choose More > Export permissions to export the authorization information about the database to your on-premises device in an Excel file. You can view the information such as the database name, users who have permissions on the database, permissions that are granted to the users, and users who grant the permissions in the downloaded file.

  • Enable metadata access control for databases. On the Database List tab, find one or more databases that you want to manage and choose More > Access control to enable metadata access control for databases in the instances that are managed in Security Collaboration mode. After metadata access control is enabled, only users who have permissions on the database can search for the information about the database or instance. If metadata access control is disabled, all users can search for and access the database or instance. For more information, see Enable metadata access control.
