Data Management:FAQ about orders

Last Updated:Sep 25, 2023

This topic provides answers to frequently asked questions about the orders for Data Management (DMS) resources.

How do I view and manage orders in DMS?

  1. Log on to the DMS console V5.0.

  2. In the top navigation bar, move the pointer over the feiyong icon and click DMS Order Management.

    Note

In the simple mode of the DMS console, move the pointer over the profile picture in the upper-right corner of the console, and choose Billing > DMS Order Management to view the purchase details.

  3. In the Purchase specification details dialog box, view the purchased resources, including database instances that are managed in control modes (security collaboration and stable change) and database instances for which the sensitive data protection feature is enabled.

    Note

You can view the used and available quotas of purchased resources in this dialog box.

    • If the available quota is insufficient, you can upgrade the purchased subscription service or purchase a new pay-as-you-go resource. For more information about how to upgrade a subscription service and how to purchase a pay-as-you-go resource, see Upgrade service specifications and Purchase the DMS service.

    • If the available quota is sufficient, you can unsubscribe from some pay-as-you-go resources to reduce the total quota (resource quantity in orders). Before you do so, make sure that the unsubscription does not affect your business. For more information, see Unsubscribe from pay-as-you-go resources.

Are my orders for DMS resources bound to database instances?

No, orders for DMS resources are not bound to your database instances. To allow you to use and manage DMS resources in a flexible manner, the quotas for control modes (security collaboration and stable change) or the sensitive data protection feature in your orders can be used for all database instances in DMS.

Are the available features in DMS different when I use a subscription resource or use a pay-as-you-go resource?

No, the available features in DMS are the same regardless of whether you use a subscription resource or a pay-as-you-go resource.

Why do I still receive the bill message after I have unsubscribed from a pay-as-you-go DMS resource?

A pay-as-you-go DMS resource is billed on a daily basis. The bill for the resource usage on the day when you unsubscribe from the pay-as-you-go resource is generated on the next day. You will no longer receive a bill message two days after the unsubscription.

Am I still charged in DMS if an RDS instance managed in DMS has been released in the RDS console but has not been removed from DMS?

Yes, you are still charged in DMS. DMS orders are not bound to your database instances. Therefore, after this instance is released in the RDS console, this instance is not automatically removed from DMS. You need to manually remove this instance in the DMS console. After this instance is removed, the quota occupied by this instance in the order will be released and can be used for other instances. For more information, see Remove database instances.

How do I unsubscribe from or downgrade a subscription resource?

If you want to unsubscribe from a subscription DMS resource, you can go to the Subscribe page in the Alibaba Cloud Management console.

After you successfully unsubscribe from the resource, you can perform a downgrade. You need to use the same Alibaba Cloud account to purchase a subscription resource again on the buy page. After the subscription order is downgraded, the quota for the new subscription resource cannot exceed the specifications in the order. Otherwise, DMS disables the instance for which the quota is exceeded.

Note

You must unsubscribe from a resource and purchase a new resource on the same day and the interval between the two operations cannot exceed four hours.
