Delete a backup set
Data Disaster Recovery (DBS) generates a backup set each time a backup schedule runs. Delete backup sets you no longer need to reduce storage costs.
Before deleting a backup set manually, consider whether lifecycle rules are a better fit. Lifecycle rules automatically dump and clear backup sets on a schedule you define—without manual intervention. Manual deletion is appropriate when you need to immediately reclaim storage outside your scheduled lifecycle, or when a specific backup set is no longer relevant to your recovery strategy.
Prerequisites
The backup schedule you want to manage has at least three full backup sets. If fewer than three exist, deletion is not allowed.
Limitations
One at a time: Delete one backup set per operation. Batch deletion is not supported.
Full backups only: Only full backup sets can be deleted. Incremental backup sets cannot be deleted.
Earliest first: Only the earliest backup set can be deleted. This preserves the continuity of your restore chain.

Next steps
Reduce storage costs with storage plans: Purchase a Data Disaster Recovery storage plan to offset the storage usage of large backups. Storage plans are more cost-efficient than pay-as-you-go billing.
Automate backup set cleanup: Configure lifecycle rules so that Data Disaster Recovery automatically dumps and clears backup sets based on the rules you specify. For details, see How do I manage the lifecycle rules of backup sets?
