Before you can use Data Lake Formation (DLF), complete two one-time setup tasks: authorize DLF to access related cloud resources, then activate DLF in each region where you plan to use it.
Before you begin
-
If you are a RAM user who cannot access DLF, ask the administrator of your Alibaba Cloud account to grant you the required access policy.
-
Identify the regions where you plan to use DLF. You must activate the service separately in each region.
Step 1: Authorize cloud resource access
Authorization grants DLF permission to access related Alibaba Cloud services. This step is required once per Alibaba Cloud account. RAM users under the same account do not need to repeat it.
-
Log on to the Data Lake Formation console.
-
On the right side of Authorize cloud resource access, click Authorize.
-
On the Authorize cloud resource access page, click Confirm Authorization at the bottom.
-
Return to the DLF console and verify that Authorize cloud resource access is marked complete.
DLF automatically creates the system default role AliyunDLFNextWorkFlowDefaultRole and attaches the AliyunDLFNextWorkFlowDefaultRolePolicy policy to your account. No manual configuration is required.
Step 2: Activate Data Lake Formation
You must activate DLF once in each region where you plan to use it. Activation ensures service availability in that region.
-
Log on to the Data Lake Formation console.
-
Select the region where you want to use DLF.
-
On the right side of Activate Data Lake Formation, click Activate.
After activation succeeds, the DLF console is ready to use in that region. Repeat this step for each additional region where you want to use DLF.
What's next
After you authorize and activate DLF, you can begin setting up your data lake:
-
Configure data sources to make data accessible in DLF.
-
Manage metadata to organize your databases and tables.
-
Set up access control to manage permissions for users.
