Dynamic Content Delivery Network:Domain FAQ

Last Updated:Jan 19, 2024

This topic provides answers to some commonly asked questions when you add a domain name to Dynamic Content Delivery Network (DCDN) for acceleration.

When I add a domain name to DCDN, a message appears indicating that the domain name is already added to another cloud service or by another Alibaba Cloud account. What do I do?

  • If the domain name is already added to another cloud service that belongs to the same Alibaba Cloud account:

    • If the domain name is added to Alibaba Cloud CDN, you can upgrade from CDN to DCDN for the domain name in the CDN console. For more information, see Upgrade from Alibaba Cloud CDN to DCDN for your domain name.

    • If the domain name is added to cloud services other than CDN, such as ApsaraVideo Live, and you want to transfer the domain name to DCDN, make sure that no traffic is forwarded to the domain name before you delete the domain name in the ApsaraVideo Live console. Then, add the domain name in the DCDN console. In other scenarios, submit a ticket.

  • If the domain name is already added by another Alibaba Cloud account, make sure that no traffic is forwarded to the domain name before you delete the domain name in the service console. Then, add the domain name in the DCDN console. In other scenarios, submit a ticket.

I have completed ICP filing for my domain name, but the system sends a prompt indicating that the domain name is not filed when I add it to DCDN. What do I do?

The process of synchronizing the ICP filing information of MIIT to DCDN requires a specific period of time. We recommend that you use the domain name 8 hours after you complete the ICP filing.

Are subdomain names accelerated after I add my root domain name to DCDN?

No, subdomain names are not accelerated after you add a root domain name to DCDN. The root domain name and subdomain name, such as, aliyundoc.com and example.aliyundoc.com, are different domain names. The root domain name and subdomain names can be accelerated only after both are added to DCDN in the DCDN console.

How do I apply DCDN to a root domain name and subdomain names?

The root domain name (aliyundoc.com) and subdomain names (example.aliyundoc.com and www.example.aliyundoc.com) are different domain names. You must add all of them to DCDN for acceleration. If the domain names have the same configurations, you can copy configurations or call the BatchAddDcdnDomain operation to configure the same settings for multiple domain names in a batch.

Does DCDN support wildcard domain names?

Yes, DCDN supports wildcard domain names.

For example, if you add .aliyundoc.com to DCDN and resolve .aliyundoc.com to a CNAME that is generated by DCDN, all subdomain names of the wildcard domain name, such as example.aliyundoc.com and demo.aliyundoc.com, can be resolved to the CNAME of .aliyundoc.com for acceleration. For information about how to add wildcard domain names, see Does DCDN support wildcard domain names?

How do I disable or remove an accelerated domain name?

To disable an accelerated domain name, disable the acceleration service in the DCDN console and then delete the domain name.

Before you perform the preceding steps, we recommend that you migrate the workloads of the domain name to another domain name to prevent service interruptions. You can migrate workloads from a domain name to another domain name by using one of the following methods:

  • Add a new domain name to DCDN to replace the one that you want to remove. Then, requests are sent to the new domain name, and workloads are gradually migrated to the new domain name.

  • In the DNS settings of the domain name that you want to remove, map the accelerated domain name to the origin server.

Why does access to domain names of lower levels fail after I upload a certificate for the wildcard domain name?

  • Problem description: A certificate for a wildcard domain name is uploaded to DCDN, but the browser reports an error when visitors access domain names of lower levels of the wildcard domain name.

  • Cause: If the website address that matches the certificate that is uploaded to DCDN is a wildcard domain name, such as *.aliyundoc.com, only domain names of the level at which the wildcard is declared can be covered. Examples: example.aliyundoc.com, developer.aliyundoc.com, and aliyundoc.com. Fourth-level domain names, such as image.developer.aliyundoc.com, are not covered. This restriction is imposed by the certificate authority and browsers.

  • Solution: To use DCDN for a fourth-level domain name, upload a wildcard certificate that covers fourth-level domain names. For example, a certificate for *.developer.aliyundoc.com supports fourth-level domain names such as image.developer.aliyundoc.com and demo.developer.aliyundoc.com.
