DataWorks:System management

Last Updated:Mar 27, 2026

On the System Management page of DataAnalysis, you can assign resource groups for SQL query tasks and data upload tasks across different compute engines. Once configured, all matching tasks in the current tenant and region use the assigned resource groups automatically.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure that you have:

  • An Alibaba Cloud account or a RAM user with the tenant administrator role in DataWorks

  • At least one serverless resource group (recommended) or exclusive resource group associated with your DataWorks workspace. Exclusive resource groups include exclusive resource groups for scheduling and exclusive resource groups for Data Integration. For MaxCompute, these exclusive resource groups are also referred to as old-version resource groups.

  • Network connectivity established between your data sources and the resource groups you plan to use. For details, see Network connectivity solutions

Limitations

  • Only the Alibaba Cloud account (main account) or a RAM user with the tenant administrator role can access the System Management page.

  • Settings on this page apply only to the current tenant in the current region.

  • Data upload is supported for three compute engines: MaxCompute, E-MapReduce (EMR) Hive, and Hologres.

Supported resource group types by compute engine

Compute engine Serverless resource group Exclusive resource group
MaxCompute Supported (recommended) Supported
EMR Hive Supported Supported
Hologres Supported Supported
Tip: Use serverless resource groups when available — they require less capacity planning and scale automatically. Use exclusive resource groups when you need dedicated compute resources or stricter network isolation.

For either resource group type, the resource groups you select must meet two conditions:

Configure resource groups for SQL query and data upload tasks

  1. Go to the DataAnalysis page.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click the 更多 icon and select System Management.

  3. On the System Management page, find the compute engine type you want to configure.

  4. From the drop-down lists to the right of the compute engine type, select a resource group for scheduling and a resource group for Data Integration.

Note: The selected resource groups must be connected to your data source and associated with the target workspace. Tasks fail if either condition is not met.
  5. Repeat for each compute engine type you use.
