After user profile analysis completes, five tables are created in MaxCompute, E-MapReduce (EMR), or StarRocks. Use Data Map to search these tables, inspect their metadata, and trace data lineage.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that you have completed user profile analysis for your data source:
| Data source type | Manual metadata collection required | Prerequisite |
|---|---|---|
| MaxCompute | No | User profile analysis (MaxCompute) is complete |
| EMR | No | User profile analysis (EMR) is complete |
| StarRocks | Yes — complete Step 1: Collect metadata before Step 2 | User profile analysis (StarRocks) is complete |
After user profile analysis completes, the five tables can be queried directly in the related data source.
Open Data Map
Log on to the DataWorks console.
In the top navigation bar, select the target region.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Governance > Data Map.
Click Go to Data Map.
Step 1: Collect metadata
This step applies to StarRocks data sources only. MaxCompute and EMR metadata is collected automatically — skip to Step 2.
Data Map uses a crawler to collect metadata from StarRocks. Configure a crawler as follows:
In the left-side navigation pane of the Data Map page, click Collect Metadata.
On the Data Source Perspective tab, find StarRocks and click Manage in the upper-right corner.
Click the Data Sources for Which No Crawler Is Created tab. Find the target data source and click Create Crawler in the Actions column.
In the Configure Collection Plan dialog box, set Resource Group Name. Use a serverless resource group or an exclusive resource group for scheduling for best results.
Click Test Network Connectivity and wait for the test to succeed.
Set Collection Plan, then click Confirmation.
For more details on metadata collection options, see Metadata collection.
Troubleshooting: If the network connectivity test fails despite a valid connection, and your resource group was purchased before February 1, 2024, contact technical support to upgrade the resource group, then re-run the test.
Step 2: View table details
After metadata collection completes (or if you are using MaxCompute or EMR), search for a table created during user profile analysis.
Log on to the DataWorks console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Catalog > Data Map, then click Go to Data Map.
In the left-side navigation pane, click the
icon.On the Data Source tab, select your data source type (for example, StarRocks), then search for tables by type. For more information about table search, see Query and manage common data.

Click the table name to open the table details page. The table details page displays the following information: basic information, technical information, business information, details, and usage notes. For more information, see View the details of a table.
