This topic describes how to configure category navigation and manage MaxCompute tables within a workspace on the Configuration Management page in Data Map.
Permission restrictions
To use Configuration Management in DataWorks, you must have the required permissions for Configuration Management operations.
An Alibaba Cloud account has the required permissions by default.
Resource Access Management (RAM) users with the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess permission can perform these operations. If this permission is not granted, you must first grant the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess permission. For more information, see Overview of DataWorks permissions.
In the section, you can also assign the Data Catalog Administrator role to a user.
Access the Configuration Management page
Log on to the DataWorks console. In the top navigation bar, select the desired region. In the left-side navigation pane, choose . On the page that appears, click Go to Data Map.
In the left-side menu bar, click Configuration Management and select a configuration item.
Category navigation configuration
Category navigation configuration helps you organize and manage tables by category. After you configure table categories, you can filter tables by category during searches. You can also add specific tables to your favorites for quick access. The configured category navigation applies to all workspace members in the current Alibaba Cloud region.
In the navigation pane on the left, click Configuration Management > Manage Categories.
Create a category.
In the Manage Categories section, click the
icon next to a category to create a new one.
NoteYou can create up to four levels of categories. After a category is created, you can click the
icon to edit it or click the
icon to delete it.Manage tables in a category.
Click Quick Add and follow the on-screen instructions to add tables to the current category. The added tables appear in the right-side panel. You can also remove tables from the current category.
NoteThe Quick Add feature is available only in leaf directories. After you add a table to a leaf directory, you can filter by that directory or its parent directory.
Project management configuration
Use Manage Workspaces to control how project-level and table-level metadata appears in Data Map.
This feature supports only the MaxCompute engine. For other engines, manage permissions by configuring metadata acquisition settings. For more information, see Metadata acquisition.
In the navigation pane on the left, click Configuration Management > Manage Workspaces.
In the Workspace (I am the owner or administrator) section, select a workspace. Then, in the Workspace Status section, toggle the access control switches as needed.

Manage Metadata: Controls whether metadata for the current project appears in Data Map.
Enable Data Preview: Allows tenant members to preview sample data from tables in the project, even if they do not have data access permissions.
Allow Only Project Members to View Project Tables: Hides tables in the project by default, making them visible only to project members.
Other configurations
On the Other Settings page in the navigation pane on the left, you can configure the following settings:
Whether RAM users must join a workspace before they can access Data Map.
Whether RAM users must join a workspace before they can call the metadata OpenAPI.
Only an Alibaba Cloud account, a RAM user with the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess policy, or a tenant administrator can change these configurations.
