    When a DataWorks resource group connects to a data source, the connection fails if the resource group's IP addresses are not in the data source's IP whitelist. Add the resource group's IP addresses to the data source's whitelist before creating Data Service tasks.

    Resource group types

    DataWorks supports different resource group types for Data Service. The type determines how to obtain and configure IP whitelist addresses.

    Exclusive resource group for Data Service

    Your VPC or elastic IP address (EIP) configuration

    Dedicated resources, VPC-level isolation, or access to on-premises data centers. Only available in the China (Shanghai) region.

    Serverless resource group (recommended)

    Using serverless resource groups

    Stronger resource isolation, more stable network connectivity, better disaster recovery, and higher availability.

    After identifying your resource group type, go to the corresponding section below.

    Shared resource group IP whitelist

    Before creating a Data Service API, configure its data source. Add the IP addresses for the region where your data source is deployed to the data source's IP whitelist. Find your region in the tables below and copy all listed IP addresses.

    Important

    The IP CIDR blocks for shared resource groups may change as the underlying infrastructure scales out. For stronger resource isolation, more stable network connectivity, better disaster recovery, and higher availability, use serverless resource groups.

    IP addresses effective before March 23, 2026

    The IP addresses for shared resource groups in the China (Shanghai) region and the China East 2 Finance region will be updated starting March 23, 2026. The following table lists the whitelist IP addresses for all regions before that date.

    The following table summarizes connectivity solutions for each network environment. Find the scenario that matches your data source deployment and follow the corresponding procedure.

    Access a data source over the internet

    To connect an exclusive resource group to a data source over the internet, create an EIP, associate it with an Internet NAT gateway, and configure a Source Network Address Translation (SNAT) entry.

    1. Log on to the VPC console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Access to Internet > Elastic IP Addresses. Click Create EIP. > Note: The EIP must be in the same region as the exclusive resource group. For detailed steps, see Apply for EIPs.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane of the VPC console, choose NAT Gateway > Internet NAT Gateway. Click Create NAT Gateway. > Note: The NAT gateway must be in the same region as the exclusive resource group. For detailed steps, see Purchase an Internet NAT gateway.

    3. Find the NAT gateway and click Manage in the Actions column. On the instance details page, click the Associated EIP tab, then click Associate EIP. In the dialog box, select an existing EIP, enter a name, and click OK.

    4. Click the SNAT tab, then click Create SNAT Entry. Set SNAT Entry to Specify vSwitch. From the Select vSwitch drop-down list, select the vSwitch that the exclusive resource group for Data Service uses. From the Select EIP drop-down list, select the EIP. Enter a custom Entry Name and click OK. > Note: The vSwitch must be the same vSwitch that the exclusive resource group for Data Service uses.

    5. After the SNAT entry is created, copy the associated EIP address and add it to the IP whitelist of the data source. For details, see Configure data sources.

    Access a data source in the same VPC

    If the data source and DataWorks are in the same region and VPC (same or different vSwitches), the exclusive resource group can connect directly.

    1. Log on to the VPC console. In the left-side navigation pane, click vSwitch. Find the vSwitch that the exclusive resource group for Data Service uses and copy its IPv4 CIDR Block.

    2. Add the IPv4 CIDR block of the vSwitch to the IP whitelist of the data source.

    Connect across VPCs in the same region

    If the data source and DataWorks are in the same region but different VPCs, use a VPN gateway with an IPsec-VPN connection.

    1. Log on to the VPC console.

    2. Create a VPN gateway, a customer gateway, and an IPsec-VPN connection. Configure routes for the VPN gateway and test the private network connection. For details, see Enable communication between two VPCs by using an IPsec-VPN connection in dual-tunnel mode.

    3. Add the CIDR block of the vSwitch that the exclusive resource group for Data Service uses to the IP whitelist of the data source. > Note: For high availability, create two sets of VPN gateways, customer gateways, and IPsec-VPN connections.

    Connect across regions

    If the data source and DataWorks are in different regions, use Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN).

    1. Log on to the Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) console.

    2. Create a CEN instance, attach network instances, purchase a bandwidth plan, configure cross-region bandwidth, and verify the connection. For details, see Use CEN and Basic Edition transit routers to connect VPCs in the same region or Connect network instances created by different accounts and in different regions.

    3. Add the CIDR block of the vSwitch in which the exclusive resource group for Data Service resides to the IP whitelist of the data source.

    Connect to an on-premises data center

    If the data source is in an on-premises data center, use Express Connect and CEN to bridge the network.

    1. Use Express Connect and CEN to connect the VPC that contains the exclusive resource group for Data Service to the on-premises data center.

    2. Add the CIDR block of the vSwitch in which the exclusive resource group for Data Service resides to the IP whitelist of the data source.

    Configure IP whitelists for data sources

    After determining which IP addresses to add, configure the IP whitelist on your data source. The following section uses ApsaraDB RDS as an example, since RDS has two whitelist modes that affect how the whitelist behaves.

    RDS whitelist modes

    ApsaraDB RDS supports two whitelist modes: standard mode and enhanced whitelist mode.

    Standard mode

    • Does not distinguish between classic network and VPC whitelist groups.

    • The shared resource group and the exclusive resource group for Data Service can use the same whitelist group configuration.

    • IP addresses in the whitelist can access the RDS instance from both the classic network and a VPC.

    Enhanced whitelist mode

    • Distinguishes between classic network and VPC whitelist groups.

    • Specify a network type for each whitelist group. An IP address added to a classic network whitelist cannot access the RDS instance from a VPC, and vice versa.

    In enhanced mode, choose the correct whitelist group type:

    Switching from standard mode to enhanced whitelist mode copies the standard IP whitelist and generates two identical whitelist groups: one for the classic network and one for VPC.

    Usage notes

    • Configuring IP whitelists does not affect the normal operation of the RDS instance.

    • The default IP whitelist group, named default, cannot be deleted. Only its entries can be cleared.

    • Do not modify or delete system-created whitelist groups such as ali_dms_group (the IP whitelist group for DMS) and hdm_security_ips (the IP whitelist group for DAS). Modifying these groups may cause related Alibaba Cloud services to stop working.

    • By default, the IP whitelist contains only 127.0.0.1, which means no external IP address can access the RDS instance.

    Create a separate whitelist group dedicated to DataWorks. This keeps DataWorks IP addresses isolated from other whitelist configurations and simplifies future updates.

    Troubleshooting

    Connection fails after adding IP addresses to the whitelist

    If a DataWorks task fails to connect to a data source after configuring the IP whitelist, check the following:

    • Correct region: Verify that the IP addresses match the data source region listed in the IP whitelist table.

    • Complete IP list: Confirm that all IP addresses for the region were added, not just a subset. Shared resource groups use multiple CIDR blocks.

    • Whitelist mode (RDS): If the RDS instance uses enhanced whitelist mode, verify that the IP addresses were added to the correct whitelist group type (VPC or classic network) based on the connection method.

    • Network connectivity: For exclusive resource groups, verify that the underlying network path is established (SNAT entry, VPN tunnel, or CEN route) before checking the IP whitelist.

    • Whitelist group conflicts: Confirm that system-created whitelist groups such as ali_dms_group and hdm_security_ips have not been modified or deleted.
