Dataphin:Configure email message channel

Last Updated:Jan 21, 2025

Dataphin enables the configuration of message channels for SMTP and Exchange protocol emails. This topic outlines the steps to set up email message sending channels.

Usage instructions

  • Message sending channels can be configured globally at the instance level or individually for each tenant, based on your organization's needs.

  • Alert information will not be sent if the message channel is disabled. To ensure the delivery of alert notifications, please activate the email message channel.

Permission instructions

  • Metadata warehouse tenant super administrators and system administrators at the instance level are authorized to edit message channels.

  • At the tenant level, super administrators and system administrators have editing privileges for message channels, while other users are permitted to view them.

Configure SMTP protocol email

Note

By default, System Settings utilize the email configuration from the deployed configuration file to send emails. If not already configured, please proceed with a custom setup.

  1. Navigate to the Dataphin home page and single click Management Center in the top menu bar.

  2. Use the following guide to configure the necessary settings for SMTP protocol emails.

    Parameter

    Description

    Email Protocol

    Choose SMTP as the protocol.

    Sender Email Address

Enter the email address from which the messages will be sent.

    Connection Method

Select the connection type: either an SSL-VPN Connection or a Non-ssl Connection.

    • SSL-VPN Connection: This encrypted method uses port 465.

    • Non-ssl Connection: Choose between STARTTLS Encryption, which upgrades port 25 to encrypted communication on port 587, or No Encryption, sending plaintext emails over port 25.

      • STARTTLS Encryption: Converts an unencrypted connection on port 25 to an encrypted one, effectively allowing a single protocol to use a single port. The designated port for this is 587.

      • No Encryption: Utilizes port 25 to send emails in plaintext without encryption.

    Overwrite Default Port

Choose whether to use a custom port instead of the default.

    Sending Server

    Specify the email server's address.

    Display Name

Set the name that will appear as the sender when emails are sent.

    Username

Enter the username for the email account.

    Authentication

    • Password: Provide the password for the email account.

    • No Authentication: Use this option for mailboxes that do not require password authentication.

  3. Compose a test email to verify the configuration of the message channel.

    Parameter

    Description

    Accept Email

Specify the recipient's email address for alert notifications.

    Email Title

Create a subject line for the email.

    Email Content

Draft the body of the alert email notification.

  4. Click Send Email to dispatch the test message.

After Dataphin confirms the email has been sent, check your inbox to see if the test email was received:

    • Receiving the test email indicates successful configuration of the message channel.

    • If the test email is not received, check the spam folder. If it's not there, add the sender's email address to your contacts and try sending the test email again.

Configure Exchange protocol email

  1. Follow the steps below to configure settings for Exchange protocol emails.
