Assume that you need to migrate terabytes or petabytes of data to Alibaba Cloud. However, the local bandwidth is low and the expansion costs are high. In this case, you can use the offline migration service provided by Data Transport.
Can I migrate data from the cloud to a data center?
Yes, you can migrate data from OSS to a data center. To do it, submit a ticket.
How much data can be transported by using the offline migration service?
You can migrate as much data as you need. We provide the Data Transport Mini (36 TB) device. You can use multiple devices in combination to migrate more data at a time.
How long does it take to migrate data by using a Data Transport device?
When a migration job is running, two data ports are used, each with a maximum bandwidth of 10 Gbit/s. The total bandwidth can support a maximum migration speed of 20 Gbit/s. However, the actual migration speed changes based on the read throughput of data sources, the bandwidth of switches, the number of files, and the total size of files. For example, the migration speed is slow if a large number of small files exist.
What data sources are supported?
Supported original data sources include local files, local shared NAS, Wos, FastDFS, and HDFS.
Supported destination data sources include Alibaba Cloud OSS and Alibaba Cloud NAS.
Is data encrypted during migration?
Yes, AES-256 encryption is used to protect data when you migrate data by using the offline migration service. The first time you enable the service, the system prompts you to set a password. You can save the password for data encryption and decryption.
Is data compression supported?
Yes, the offline migration service supports data compression. The actual compression ratio changes based on data to be migrated. A maximum compression ratio is 40:1.
You can view the size of the compressed data in the hardware management console of the Data Transport Mini device.
How can I restart or turn off a Data Transport device?
Log on to the hardware management console of the Data Transport Mini device. In the upper right corner of the page, click the username and select Restart or Shutdown from the drop-down list.
