This topic describes how to create and run a migration job. The migration job reads data from a data source. Then, the migration job encrypts, compresses, and migrates the data to a Data Transport Mini device.

Step 1: Create a password

Click Data Migration. When you log on to the Data Migration Service console for the first time, you are prompted to set a password. After you set the password, the data migration service is activated.

The password must be at least 10 characters in length and must contain uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits, and special characters.

Note The password is used for data encryption and decryption. Store the password in a safe place. Alibaba Cloud contacts you for your password before uploading your data.

Step 2: Create a job

  1. Click Create.

  2. In the Create Migration Job dialog box, set the parameters and click OK.

Several parameters are described as follows:

    • Job Name: Enter the name of a migration job. When data is uploaded to an Alibaba Cloud OSS bucket, the job name is set as the default name of the destination directory in the bucket.
    • Source Address: Select the address of the source data. If the source data address is not listed, you can click the + button to create a data address. For more information, see Create a data address.
    • Destination Address: The default value is used for this parameter. The value of this parameter cannot be modified.
    • Subtask Files Limit: Specify a reasonable number based on your business requirements.

Step 3: Run the job

Select the target jobs and click Batch Execute to encrypt and migrate data to a Data Transport Mini device.

Note After a migration job is complete, all data is encrypted and stored in the default directory.

You can perform the following operations on migration jobs:

  • Refresh: Click Refresh to display the latest progress of the migration jobs.
  • View Reports: Click View Reports to view the number of files that have been migrated to a Data Transport Mini device.
  • Pause: Choose More > Pause to pause a running migration job.
  • Continue: Choose More > Continue to resume a suspended migration job.
  • Retry: Choose More > Retry to restart a failed migration job.
  • Fix: Choose More > Fix to fix the issues that are detected during a scan on a migration job.
  • Status: Click the > icon next to the status of a migration job to view the progress of the job. The progress information includes the status of historical job executions, the total number of files that need to be migrated, the number of files that are successfully migrated, and the number of files that fail to be migrated.

What to do next

During data migration, you can log on to the console of the Data Transport Mini device to view the transfer speeds of a running migration job.

In the device console, click Resource Monitor to view the transfer speeds of the device.
