Warehouse project

This topic describes how to create and manage a warehouse project.

Create a warehouse project

To open the New Warehouse Project dialog box, you can click New Warehouse Project on the Home tab of the Data Warehouse Developer page. Alternatively, you can click Develop Space on the left-side navigation submenu. On the tab that appears, click the plus sign (+) next to Data warehouse. The New Warehouse Project dialog box appears.

In the New Warehouse Project dialog box, set the following parameters:

  • Project Name: the name of the warehouse project. The project name must be unique for each Data Management Service (DMS) tenant.
  • Mode: the mode in which the warehouse project works. Valid values: Simple Mode and Standard Mode. In the simple mode, you can bind the warehouse project to only one database, which is used as both the development environment and the production environment. In the standard mode, you must bind the warehouse project to two databases to separate the development environment from the production environment. The standard mode will be available soon.
  • Select Data Development Services: the services enabled for the warehouse project, such as data integration and data services.
  • Data warehouse engine selection: the database engine and database instance used to create the warehouse project. You can select a database engine and a database instance as needed. You can only select a database instance that is registered in DMS as a data warehouse engine. For more information about how to register a database instance, see Instance management.

After you select a data warehouse engine, the engine details appear at the bottom of the dialog box.

  1. To guarantee better user experience and security, the database instances used to create warehouse projects must be managed in the Secure Collaboration mode. For more information, see Control modes.
  2. Only the owner of a database can use the database to create a warehouse project. For more information, see Permission management. If you do not have required permissions, apply to be the database owner first.
  3. A warehouse project can be used by multiple developers. If a developer wants to edit a warehouse project and perform data development such as creating tables and task flows, the developer must have the change permission on the database to which the warehouse project is bound. For more information, see Permission management.

Manage themes

On the Develop Space tab, find the target warehouse project in the left-side navigation pane and choose More > Theme management.
theme management

In the Theme Management dialog box that appears, you can create, modify, or delete themes. Currently, DMS supports two levels of themes. To create a level-2 theme, you must associate it with a level-1 theme as its parent theme.

Manage layers

You can open the Level Management dialog box in the same way as the Theme Management dialog box. The following figure shows the Level Management dialog box. By default, a data warehouse in DMS has three layers: operational data store (ODS), common data model (CDM), and application data store (ADS). You can also customize the layers. For more information, see Terms.
