Manage metadata

Metadata management is important for building a data lake. Centralized data management can help improve data value. Data Lake Formation (DLF) provides the metadata management feature for you to manage metadatabases and metadata tables.

Create a metadatabase

  1. Log on to the DLF console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Metadata management > Metabase.

  2. Click Add MetaBase.

  3. In the Create MetaBase dialog box, set the parameters as required.

    1. Set a name for the metadatabase.

    2. Optional. Enter the description of the metadatabase.

    3. Optional. Specify the OSS path of the metadatabase.

Create a metadata table

  1. After the metadatabase is created, create a metadata table.

  2. On the Create metadata table page, set the parameters as required.

    1. Set a name for the metadata table.

    2. Optional. Enter the description of the metadata table.

    3. Specify the OSS path for storing the data of the metadata table.

    4. Specify the storage format of the metadata table.

    5. Specify a delimiter for the metadata table.

    6. Manually define the columns of the metadata table. For example, specify column IDs, column names, and partition key columns.

Delete a metadatabase

1. In the left-side navigation pane of the DLF console, choose Metadata management > Metabase.

2.On the Metabase page, find the metadatabase that you want to delete and click Delete in the Operation column. In the message that appears, click OK.

1. In the left-side navigation pane of the DLF console, choose Metadata management > Meta data table.

2. On the Meta data table page, find the metadata table that you want to delete and click Delete in the Operation column. In the message that appears, click OK.
