Cloud Storage Gateway:What are the limitations of cross-zone high-availability file gateways in Cloud Storage Gateway?

Last Updated:Feb 27, 2025

This topic describes the limitations of cross-zone high-availability (HA) file gateways in Cloud Storage Gateway (CSG).

A cross-zone HA file gateway has the following limitations:

  • A cross-zone HA file gateway requires a minimum cache disk capacity of 100 GB.

  • A cross-zone HA file gateway does not support the replication mode, Active Directory (AD) domains, or multi-bucket associations.

  • An error in a cross-zone HA file gateway that is not in the Healthy state may lead to the unavailability of the service.

  • A cross-zone HA file gateway will enter the Degraded state during a gateway update. After the update is complete, the gateway automatically returns to the Healthy state.

  • A failover disrupts ongoing I/O operations for SMB shares. However, after the failover is complete, subsequent I/O operations will resume normally. To ensure continuous I/O operations, verify that your application implements a retry mechanism, or use a client tool that supports retries, such as Xcopy.
