Cloud Parallel File Storage:Create a data source

Last Updated:May 08, 2026

Alibaba Cloud Cloud Backup lets you back up a CPFS file system to a backup vault. After you install a backup client, create a data source in the Cloud Backup console.

Prerequisites

  • Cloud Backup is activated. You are not charged for activating Cloud Backup. If you use the CPFS backup feature of Cloud Backup, you are charged for the storage usage of backup vaults. For more information, see Billing of the CPFS backup feature.

  • The CPFS file system can access Alibaba Cloud over the Internet. If Internet access is unavailable, make sure that the CPFS file system is connected to Alibaba Cloud virtual private clouds (VPCs) by using virtual private networks (VPNs) or Express Connect circuits. You must also make sure that you can use a Cloud Backup client to access one of the following CIDR blocks from an on-premises server: 100.64.0.0/10, 100.64.0.0/11, and 100.96.0.0/11. For more information, see Single-tunnel mode.

  • You have installed the backup client on the planned backup nodes. For more information, see Install a backup client.

  • The data source path for backup is prepared. Example: /mnt/cpfs.

  • You have created a CPFS for Lingjun file system and managed its VPC mount target, and obtained the VPC mount target address. To learn how to mount the CPFS for Lingjun file system, contact the CPFS team.

Important
  • Backup jobs consume resources such as CPU and memory and can affect the performance of your ECS instance. We recommend creating a dedicated ECS instance to run backup jobs.

  • The new ECS instance must be in the same VPC as the CPFS for Lingjun file system. Creating an ECS instance incurs ECS fees. For more information, see Instance type billing.

  • Before backing up a CPFS for Lingjun file system, confirm with the CPFS team that the file system can be mounted on all ECS instances where the backup client is installed.

Usage notes

If the ECS instance on which a Cloud Backup client is installed resides in the region where you use the CPFS backup feature, set the data network to VPC when you create a client group.

  1. Click Settings in the Actions column of the Cloud Backup client that you want to configure.

  2. In the Client Settings dialog box, set Data Network to VPC and click OK.

Procedure

Note

After you create a backup plan, the first backup job performs a full backup and subsequent backup jobs perform incremental backups.

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Back Up > CPFS Backup.

  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the CPFS Backup page, click Create Data Source.

  5. In the Create Data Source panel, configure the following parameters and click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Source Type

    CPFS for Lingjun .

    Data Source Name

A name to identify the data source. For example, cpfs-datasource.

    VPC Mount Target

The address of the VPC mount target. For example, cpfs-xxx.region.cpfs.aliyuncs.com.

    CPFS Shared Directory

The shared directory that CPFS for Lingjun exports from the VPC mount target. The default value is /.

    Backup Client Group

Select the clients where you installed the backup client.

You can add multiple clients to a backup client group to run a backup job in parallel.

    • Create Backup Client Group: Click Create Backup Client Group, enter a name in the Client Group Name field, and select the clients that you want to add to the group.

    • Select Backup Client Group: Select an existing backup client group that contains the required clients.

    Note
    • A client must have an Activated status to function correctly. If the status is abnormal, see Install a backup client for troubleshooting.

    • To reduce data transfer costs over the public network, use a private connection or VPN. Then, in the Client Settings, change the Data Network from Internet to VPC.

For detailed instructions on how to install the client, see Install a backup client.

After creating the data source, it appears on the Data Source List tab. The Backup Plans column displays None. You can now create a backup plan to protect it. For more information, see Back up CPFS files.
