Container Registry:Overdue payments

Last Updated:Aug 26, 2024

This topic describes the impacts of overdue payments on resources.

Causes of overdue payments

If the sum of the balance, vouchers, and coupons in your Alibaba Cloud account is less than the payable amounts of your bills, your account has overdue payments.

Overdue payments

Overdue payment alerts

After an overdue payment occurs, the system sends notifications to remind you of the overdue payments by SMS or email.

Overdue payments within the overdraft limit

Your service is not affected.

Alibaba Cloud supports a grace period. During the grace period, you can still use pay-as-you-go resources for which the bill does not exceed the overdraft limit even if your Alibaba Cloud account has an overdue payment. You are still charged for using the resources within the grace period. The overdraft limit is not equal to the maximum overdue payment that is allowed. The overdraft limit and period are automatically calculated and updated on a monthly basis based on the consumption records of your Alibaba Cloud account.

No more than 7 days after the overdue payment occurs

If the balance in your Alibaba Cloud account is insufficient to pay the bill amount and your Container Registry Enterprise Edition instance is in the overdue state, you cannot change the instance specifications or purchase resource plans. However, core features such as image hosting and distribution can still be used within 7 days (168 hours), and you are charged continuously.

More than 7 days after the overdue payment occurs

If you do not pay all overdue bills within 7 days (168 hours) after the overdue payment occurs, the system terminates and deletes your Container Registry Enterprise Edition instance. You can no longer pull the container images on the instance. The data of the container images is retained in the corresponding Object Storage Service (OSS) buckets.

Subscription

Subscription is a billing method that allows you to use resources only after you pay for the resources. This billing method helps you reduce costs by allowing you to reserve resources at discounted rates.

The subscription billing method is suitable for the following scenarios:

  • The usage period of resources can be estimated.

  • The resource usage does not frequently fluctuate.

  • Resources are required for long-term use.

After a subscription instance expires, the instance is automatically stopped. The instance is retained for seven days. Renew the instance within the period.

After you top up your Alibaba Cloud account, your service is resumed.

  • If you top up the account within the grace period, your service is not affected.

  • If you top up the account within seven days after the instance is stopped, your service is resumed.

Renew an instance

A subscription Container Registry Enterprise Edition instance is automatically released after the instance expires. If you want to continue using the instance, you can manually renew the instance before the instance is released. You can also enable auto-renewal for the instance.

Enable auto-renewal

If you enable auto-renewal for instances, you do not need to manually renew the instances on a regular basis. Auto-renewal also helps prevent service interruptions that occur if you fail to renew instances in time. You can use one of the following methods to enable auto-renewal for an instance:

Important

A subscription instance has a validity period. If you do not renew a subscription instance before the end of the validity period, services may be interrupted or even data may be lost. Pay-as-you-go instances never expire and do not require renewal.

  • Enable auto-renewal on the instance buy page

When you create a subscription instance, select Auto-renewal on the buy page. For more information, see Create a Container Registry Enterprise Edition instance.

  • Enable auto-renewal on the Renewal page

    1. In the top navigation bar of the Container Registry console, choose Expenses > Renewal Management.

    2. Configure the Expire At, Instances, and Region parameters to search for the instances for which you want to enable auto-renewal.

    3. On the Manual tab, enable auto-renewal for one or more instances.

      • Enable auto-renewal for one instance: Find the instance and click Enable Auto Renewal in the Actions column.

      • Enable auto-renewal for multiple instances: Select the instances and click Enable Auto Renewal below the instance list.

    4. In the Enable Auto Renewal dialog box, select a renewal duration and click Auto Renew.

If the instances are displayed on the Auto tab, auto-renewal is enabled for the instances.
