You can use the host monitoring feature to collect the monitoring data of multiple operating system metrics from your hosts by using the CloudMonitor agents that are installed on your hosts.

Background information

The host monitoring feature is applicable to the following scenarios:
  • Monitor hosts in a hybrid cloud

CloudMonitor collects monitoring data from your hosts by using the CloudMonitor agents that are installed on your hosts. You can install the CloudMonitor agent on Alibaba Cloud Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances and non-ECS hosts to collect monitoring data from hosts in a hybrid cloud.

  • Monitor hosts of an enterprise

The host monitoring feature allows you to group hosts in different regions to an application group. This way, you can manage the hosts of your business in a centralized manner. The host monitoring feature also allows you to manage alert rules by application group. You can apply one alert rule to all hosts of an application group. This improves the O&M efficiency and overall management experience.

Install CloudMonitor agents

  1. Log on to the CloudMonitor console.
  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Host Monitoring.
  3. On the Host Monitoring page, select the ECS instances on which you want to install or upgrade the CloudMonitor agent for C++ and click Batch Install.
  4. In the message that appears, click Confirm.
The process requires about 5 minutes to complete. If the agent status changes from Installing to Running, the CloudMonitor agent for C++ is installed or upgraded.
Note For newly purchased ECS instances, you can click Install/Upgrade Agent in the upper-left corner, and then turn on Automatically Install CloudMonitor Agent on Newly Purchased ECS Instances. If you turn off the switch, you must manually install the CloudMonitor agent for C++ on each ECS instance.
