Chat App Message Service:Migrate phone numbers

Last Updated:Mar 18, 2026

This topic describes how to migrate a phone number for your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) in the Chat App Message Service console.

Prerequisites

Background

Phone number migration lets you move a phone number registered with another Business Solution Provider (BSP) to Alibaba Cloud. After migration, the phone number retains its original display name, quality rating, messaging limits, Official Business Account (OBA) status, and any previously approved High-Quality Message Templates.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Chat App Message Service console.

  2. In the left navigation pane, click Channel Management.

  3. On the Channel Management page, find the WhatsApp channel that you want to manage and click its Channel ID or Manage.

  4. In the left navigation pane, choose WABA Management, and then click WABA Registration and Binding.

    1. Log on to your Facebook account.

      Important

You do not need to create a new account if you have one.

    2. After you log on to your Facebook account, click Get Started.

    3. On the screen to create or select your Meta and WhatsApp business accounts, choose the Meta Business Account that is associated with the number you want to migrate, and then click Continue.

    4. Create a new WABA and click Continue.

    5. After you complete the new WABA registration, close the embedded signup page.

      Important

      Ignore Step 2.

    6. Go to Meta Business Settings to verify that the business verification and WABA review are complete, and that a payment method is set.

  1. On the WABA Management page, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the remaining steps.

    Note

For more information, see the Phone number migration guide.

  2. After the migration is complete, if your account is an OBA or you previously enabled Two-Step Verification, go to Meta Business Manager to re-enable these features. This ensures your account remains secure and maintains its OBA status.
