Bastionhost:Message notification

Last Updated:Mar 31, 2026

Bastionhost can notify administrators and O&M engineers by text message, email, and internal message when key events occur — such as a command alert, a storage threshold breach, or an O&M approval request. This topic describes how to configure the notification feature.

How it works

When a monitored event triggers, Bastionhost sends notifications through the channels you enable (text message, email, or internal message) to the recipients listed in Alert Administrator Settings. All notification channels are disabled by default. You can add up to 10 recipients.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

  • Administrator access to the Bastionhost console

  • At least one Bastionhost user to designate as an alert recipient

Configure notifications

  1. Log on to the Bastionhost console. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your instance is located.

  2. In the instance list, find the target instance and click Manage.

  3. In the left navigation pane, click System Settings.

  4. Click the Notification tab.

  5. In the Alert Administrator Settings section, click Add Alert Administrator. In the Add Recipient panel, select a user and click OK.

    Note

Note: You can add up to 10 recipients.

  6. In the Text Message/Email Notification Sending Language Settings section, select a language and click Save.

    OptionDescription
Language Used by Alibaba Cloud Management ConsoleDefault setting. Bastionhost sends notifications in Chinese on the China site (aliyun.com) and in English on the international site (alibabacloud.com).
    Custom LanguageSelect Chinese or English.
  7. In the Notification section, enable notification channels for each event type you want to monitor. For each row, select Text Message, Email, Internal Message, or any combination.

    Notification typeWhen it is sent
Command Alert NotificationAn O&M operation triggers a command control policy — for example, a command is approved or blocked.
Storage Capacity NotificationStorage is about to reach the upper limit (for example, when 85% of storage is used). Bastionhost does not send further reminders if usage stays the same or continues to drop.
Notifications of Automatic TasksAn automatic password change task completes.
O&M Report NotificationEvery Monday from 10:00 to 11:00, with the O&M report for the previous week.
Shared Key Change NotificationA shared key is approaching its expiration date. You must specify a notification period for this type; only a Bastionhost administrator can configure this. Shared key expiration does not affect your service.
Alert Notification of Network Domain ProxyThe proxy server of a network domain fails. Bastionhost checks proxy server connectivity every 5 minutes.
O&M Approval NotificationAn O&M application is submitted (sent to designated recipients) or reviewed (result sent to the applicant).
Overload Protection NotificationResource consumption on the instance reaches a bottleneck, and again when it recovers.
Notification for End of User Validity PeriodSent to a Bastionhost user before their account expires. Set how many days in advance to notify (valid values: 1–7; default: 1). RAM users are not notified. Delivered only by text message and email, regardless of recipient settings.
Notification for User Password ExpirationSent to a local user before their password expires. Set how many days in advance to notify (valid values: 1–4; default: 1). Delivered regardless of recipient settings.
  8. Click Save.

Verify notifications

After saving, confirm your setup:

  • Internal messages: Click the 站内信 icon in the upper-right corner to open Message Center and view received messages.

  • Text messages and emails: These are sent to recipients listed in Alert Administrator Settings. To verify, trigger a qualifying event — for example, submit an O&M approval request — and confirm that the designated recipients receive the notification.
